Graphics card coolling tested with Ketchup, Potatoes, and Cheese as Thermal Paste

Determining the optimal thermal interface material (TIM) can be challenging, but some individuals take a more experimental approach. One enthusiast recently conducted a study that included testing various substances, such as thermal pads, cheese, ketchup, toothpaste, diaper rash ointment, and potatoes, as potential TIMs for a GPU.

The system used for testing was a Radeon R7 240 with a 30W TDP, and temperature readings were taken during a five-minute Furmark run. And apparently Ketchup works out well. It should be noted that these tests do not provide a reliable indication of the long-term effects of using unconventional materials, such as potatoes, as a TIM. Therefore, it is strongly advised not to attempt this at home. It is recommended to only use proper TIMs for cooling your GPU. However, the study's findings can be considered interesting and entertaining, despite their lack of practicality.

For a more comprehensive analysis of TIMs, we advise you to check our big Thermal Paste review here.
