GPU shipments up in Q4'19 reports - AMD Gains Market Share
The numbers for GPU shipments in Q4’2019 are in, and have increased 3.4% sequentially from last quarter, with AMD's shipments up towards 22.6%, while Nvidia's decreased by -1.9% and Intel's increased by 0.2%.
AMD's market share from last quarter in overall GPU shipments increased 3.0%, Intel's decreased -2.0%, and Nvidia's market share decreased -0.97%, as indicated in the following chart. However, in discrete GPU shipments, AMD moved up to 27% from 26% last year, and 24% last quarter. Nonetheless, Nvidia is still the dominant market share leader in discrete GPUs worldwide with 73% of the market.
Highlights of the report
- AMD’s overall unit shipments increased 22.6% quarter-to-quarter, Intel’s total shipments increased 0.2% from last quarter, and Nvidia’s decreased -1.9%
- The overall attach rate of GPUs (includes integrated and discrete GPUs) to PCs for the quarter was 130% which was up 1.8% from last quarter
- Discrete GPUs were in 31.9% of PCs, which is down -0.19% from last quarter
- The overall PC market increased by 1.99% quarter-to-quarter and increased by 3.54% year-to-year
- Desktop graphics add-in boards (AIBs) that use discrete GPUs increased 12.17% from last quarter
- Q4'19 saw an increase in tablet shipments from last quarter
Jon Peddie, President of JPR, notes “This is the third consecutive quarter of increased GPU shipments, However, Q1 which is seasonally flat to down may show an unusual dip because of supply chain interruptions from China due to the Coronavirus epidemic. 2020 is going to be a game-changer with Intel’s entry into the discrete GPU market and a possible fourth entry by an IP company.”
A total of 93 million units were shipped in Q4'19 which decreased by one million units from the same quarter a year ago indicating the market is down on a year-to-year basis. However, this is the third quarter in a row of increased GPU shipments incrementally.

Funny thing about Matrox is their newest GPUs are based on Nvidia architectures. So, perhaps Qualcomm? They're starting to make a dent in ultra-mobile laptops.

I guess APU is also included in this list. 2200G/3200G are selling like hotcakes.
It appears iGPUs are included. I like my 2400G a lot. It's set at 3.8 ghz on the cpu (undervolted) and 1500 mhz on the igpu. The entire computer uses 40-70 watts.

The article is referring to PC GPU Market share. The data presented in the graph isn't skewed at all. It's the most accurate market share figures currently available. A GPU is a GPU, whether it's integrated or dedicated. NVidia still has to compete with integrated GPUs from Intel and AMD.
We'll have to wait a few months to find out. The current standing, per the article, is that AMD gained 3% market share last quarter to go from 24% to 27% market share. NVidia lost 3% to go from 76% to 73% market share.
There's really no need to see a graph, since segregating dedicated cards from the PC GPU Market, actually skews the data.
Integrated GPUs are part of the PC GPU Market, whether NVidia fanboys like it or not. They're still GPUs....

Discreet GPU graph would be interesting considering AMDs driver problems of late.
