GPU market showing recovery, AMD gaining marketshare

Jon Peddie Research released a report about the graphics shipment in the second quarter of 2009. The research company found that after several bad quarters, the GPU market is recovering. Last quarter a total of 98.30 million graphics chips were shipped, up 31.29 percent from 74.87 million the quarter before and also up 4.1 percent from 94.42 million in Q2 2008.

Most vendors had a good quarter but JPR notes it will take until 2010 before the market is again at 2008 levels.
After the channel stopped ordering GPUs and depleted inventory in anticipation of a long drawn out worldwide recession in Q3 and Q4 of 2008, expectations were hopeful, if not high that Q1
