Google releases WiFi Home Wireless Mesh Router

Google releases WiFi Home Wireless Mesh Router

Last year Google already teamed up with TP-Link. Now Google released Google WiFi, a compact AC router. It can create an Eero-style mesh network. You only have to add additional units to your network to improve coverage -- there's a Network Assistant app that makes it easy to add more routers and improve your signal.

Google focuses on usability with Google WiFi, it automatically chooses the least busy channels and the fastest frequency band for the device. The WIFI range can be expanded easily by adding more Google Wifi routers.

The Google WiFi router is small, really small at 106 mm with a height of 69 mm and a weight of 340 grams. The units offer support for up-to AC1200 2x2 and can handle 2.4 and the 5.0 GHz frequency bands. They have been fitted with two Gigabit LAN ports. The device is powered by an unspecified quad-core processor clocked at 710 MHz. This chip is combined with 512MB DDR3L RAM and 4 GB eMMC storage memory. With regular use, he would burn about 9 watts according to Google.

Companion software also lets you control the devices linked to the router, such as enabling or disabling their connections. You'll have to wait until December to get Google WiFi (pre-orders start in November), but the pricing at least hits the sweet spot. Routers cost $129 each, and you can get a three-pack for $299 if you need to cover your home.
