Google's Chromecast might be nothing new, however, the company is now also working on a new device based on Android TV - or depending on the future naming - Google TV.

Google’s next device would put more emphasis on individual TV shows and movies, rather than the sheer amount of apps. This would be a big change in the way smart TV systems work. If individual programs are the only focus, streaming service might be pushed to the back meaning services like Netflix, Hulu and Disney+ might not even be a priority on the homescreen. The home screen would contain and shows series and films from from all selected platforms. If the user selects a movie they the respective application will start which starts the movie or serie.

As protocol reports:

Google's decision to produce a new streaming dongle shows its desire to more aggressively compete with Amazon and Roku in the streaming hardware space. However, building an Android TV streamer in-house is certain to complicate Google's already strained relationship with third-party consumer electronics manufacturers, and its move toward a more content-centric interface may trigger backlash from some of the biggest streaming services. A Google spokesperson declined to comment on the company's plans, which were described by sources who requested anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak on the record. Plans for the new streaming device were first reported by 9to5Google last month.

Only these vague details have leaked, technical specifications or a photo are not yet available.
