Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 motherboard with PCIe 5.0 slot and DDR4
Gigabyte's Intel Z690 motherboard has been pictured online, and a snapshot of it has appeared online. With four M.2 slots, this Gigabyte Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 motherboard supports the next Intel Alder Lake processors and is compatible with DDR4 memory. T
Twitter user HXL shared the news of the unannounced Gigabyte motherboard. A Z690 motherboard with the LGA1700 socket is shown for the first time in this shot. The images reveal a Chinese packing with the motherboard's specifications printed on it. DDR4 memory support is clearly mentioned in the product name of the motherboard in question. Prior to this announcement, Intel stated that their Alder Lake desktop processors would be compatible with both DDR4 and DDR5 memory. A similar situation existed with Intel's Skylake generation, which supported both DDR3 and DDR4 memory technologies. Gigabyte's Z690 Aorus Elite motherboard may also be available in a DDR5 configuration.
In addition, the photographs show that the motherboard contains a single PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for a video card, as well as four M.2 slots with a PCIe interface on the backside. The Z690 motherboard also includes a VRM with 16+1+2 phases and Wi-Fi 6 compatibility, among other things. In addition to the HDMI and DisplayPort connectors, the Z690 Aorus Elite AX DDR4 appears to include nine USB-A connections and a USB-C connection, according to the specifications.

Being a "standard" user I'm also confused by the whole DDR4 vs. 5 - so are you saying for a user who wants to build the best gaming rig that DDR5 is not a step up as I'm not sure which to go for? Also with the whole power supply thing...not sure I'm giving Gigabyte my money. Looking forward to seeing Asus high-end Z690 specs....

Yes /no /kinda ..... It really depends what kind of timings the ddr5 will manage . Most likely a ddr4 4200 cl24 kit will be faster than the initial ddr5 4800 cl40 kits . Is not something new thought the jump from ddr2 to ddr3 was a meh as well so it was the jump from ddr3 to 4 ... Mostly because the new tech comes with premium and there are not yet real high ends super binned chips .... So the comparison happens with the best the old tech has to offer against the very new overpriced tech that still has ways to go to unfold it's potential !

It will be interesting to see the overall performance difference between DDR4 and DDR5. Historically it's never been much but there are a few decent DDR5 kits showing up now.
