Gigabyte WILL release Custom Radeon RX Vega 64 Cards
Yesterday news broke the web coming from Tom's Hardware that Gigabyte would not be releasing custom RX Vega cards. That information contradicts with what we have been hearing from Gigabyte. In fact the past few weeks I have been talking with several board partners on the AIB cards.
Fact is that Vega 56 and 64 custom cards are delayed due to reasons we believe to be GPU availability. As it looks right now half October, but more likely at the end of October you will start seeing custom Vega cards. Now back to Gigabyte. Tom's Hardware Germany reported that Gigabyte would not be releasing any custom cards for both Vega 56 and 64 with maybe just a G1 version for the Vega 56.
According to sources within Gigabyte the cards will be released in week 42 or 42 (store availability), which again confirms my earlier assumption of 'later' in October. Here is what we have confirmed, Gigabyte is planning at least 4 custom cards for just Radeon RX VEGA alone, one of them we heard is water-cooled.

Nothing is known far as I know, only some rumors and guesses on that they're ensuring they have enough chips in stock and such.
Not really sure what third-party can even do for Verga, stock PBC is pretty high quality from my understanding and doesn't hold back the chip at all, air cooler isn't bad either for a blower design but it does throttle if you don't push the fan speed up and the 56 has more aggressive settings in bios for allowed voltage and such though it can be flashed to lift some of these.
Water cooler is probably not going to be beaten by any of the third party models unless they can do a water cooled version too, bios is probably mainly up to AMD and the chip has it's limitations and issues but we'll see I suppose, I could be wrong though if AMD is planning a Vega refresh next year then those might be what these third party manufacturers are waiting on before seriously starting on different models for the GPU though the current chips would need to be sold of course and I don't really know how well that process is going for AMD but hopefully the early issues with variances in chip depending on where it was manufactured has been worked out by now.
And I guess Fury faced much the same though AMD limited third-party designs to the regular Fury and the FuryX retained stock model with water cooling only whereas for the Polaris 400 and 500 series there was more headroom available to improve on the GPU.
Not too sure if stock Vega is just very over-engineered or if the GPU chip itself is what is limiting things to where it requires too much voltage and generates too much heat if pushed much further plus it's already overclocked a bit for both GPU and HBM from my understanding of things.
EDIT: The rumors on the software/driver side of things also isn't giving much info as to the future of primitive shader support globally rather than per-profile and HBCC and those other functions that weren't entirely enabled for consumer Vega GPU's at launch and from some info posted gains might not be all that great either but nothing has been confirmed though it's been months and AMD hasn't really done too much for enabling these at least in the current drivers.
But the December driver tends to be what AMD really focuses on though 4 - 5 months just to get the GPU up to spec after launch isn't really looking good and that's if these features provide any meaningful gains or can even be enabled on a global config for everything instead of a per-game basis.
But I haven't looked into it too much lately myself, price fluctuation and limited availability for the existing reference models is still a concern and if AMD wants to do a refresh of Vega and Ryzen next year that might be worth waiting for and seeing what will be improved on with that until Navi is ready whenever they're ready to start talking about that GPU but that's for later.
(Consumer Volta also seems to be a bit of a unknown for Nvidia from what I heard but again that's just rumors and nothing official so hard to confirm.)

In the US it looks like prices have leveled out. $399 in stock at microcenter and $419 on Nwegg in stock. The temps and noise are why I am most interested in 3rd party cards. Usually even some of the cheapest 3rd party solutions offer lower temps AND lower noise levels then reference blowers.

Hah yeah the air is vented out nicely and all but the noise of the blower fans is pretty loud, had one for a early 290X GPU and it's 95c target temperature default and that got really loud in games after a pretty short amount of time.
Here the pricing is still all over, I can find Vega 56 GPU's for around 6000 SEK (~710 USD or so.) but a few have come down in price to near 5400 SEK (~640 USD.) though they're all very limited in availability and rarely in stock for long.
Almost came down to under 5000 SEK for a brief period of time a few week ago and some stores had listings of 100+ in-stock, that disappeared really really fast though. Guess it looks good for AMD that the GPU's are selling out but if they can't get new stock in fast enough to replace it that doesn't help at all. 580 GPU's are also slowly making a comeback and are priced pretty well too but they also tend to sell out very quickly still.
I also wonder how Asus got their Vega custom GPU out so quickly, and then what happened to it aside from a few reviewers and some hassle around a bios update that never actually surfaced. Far as I know no stores ever had those available so yeah it just disappeared and that's the only custom Vega card so far that's been actually seen and tested.

Same GPU and should be the same MSRP but yeah pricing is all over for some of these but it's coming down little by little, availability is also improving but also at a not very fast pace.

Seems like nobody knows when these are coming out. As far as I can see a few people have guessed October and some November but really no word since September. I'm completely unbiased and use a GTX 1080 for myself currently and glad I am as the wait for Vega would not have been at all worth it for me.
However, I'm building my step dad a mid-highend rig for casual gaming and working from home. As he doesn't play MP shooters I was going to grab him a 32" 2560x1440 75hz freesync monitor, 7700k (really cheap through MC), 1tb SSD, 16GB 3000mhz and an aib Vega 56 or 1070/1070ti. Solid build for under $1500 but where the heck are custom cooled Vega cards???
