Gigabyte Teases GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
Now, we assume it is a 1070 as we have been taliing about that last week already. Gigabyte on its facebook posted a hint towards a new Ti model.
Industry sources claim all this, the product would get 2304 Shader cores which is a little hard to believe being so close to the 1080. It could also be the opposite and a simple 1070 with faster memory, likely 9 Gbps GDDR5. Back to facebook, the FB post shows an image with an evil clown hinting to the movie IT. Then there is a picture of a video card with the Gigabyte Aorus cooler, a wallet with money rising (one bill) with a balloon and the stylized letters "TI" opposed to "IT".
At the top of the teaser is the text "You'll float too." As a caption there is:
"Ti will get you too ... eventually ...
#comingsoon".
Possibly (even likely) the horror theme refers to an introduction date during Halloween which is Wednesday, 31 October.

Whether or not Nvidia is milking anything, the 1070Ti is still a stupid product, whose sole purpose is just to make sure they have something faster than the Vega56 at a similar price point. This has nothing to do with whether or not Vega is a good product, good value, etc. I am sure without even seeing benchmarks that a 1070Ti will be the better product. Still doesn't change the fact it's a dumb product that doesn't need to exist. Who is the target demographic? A regular 1070 is perfectly fine for 2K@60Hz, but not much more. A 1080 is sufficient for 2K@90Hz (so, VR for example). What's a 1070Ti going to do other than give Nvidia the opportunity bragging rights over having the faster product in that performance tier?
Anyway, the ad is funny.
Why is it a stupid product?
No details on it's release have been revealed.
What if it drops the prices on the 1070 and other lineups and MSRP is the same as the old 1070 while outperforming vega56.
In that case, it benefits everyone.
More choices are better for consumers.
GPUs are never fast enough, I wish there was something much faster than 1080Ti.

I don't think that this release is a silly product launch, if people don't want it they won't buy it anyway. Customers should use their brains whatever the manufacturer's of GPUs and cards do, no way around it... it may be interesting for people not having done the jump eventually, maybe NV's plan is to cater to the people who are fed up with waiting for Vega 56 or the custom cards?
I'm not trying to be an ass, but you do know both brands have die-hard loyalists, right? Even if they're not loyalists, they buy what is currently the best for the sake of having the best (which is currently Nvidia). Some people jump on a product as soon as its out regardless of how little they need it, simply because they like the brand and the brand makes you think you need them (iPhones are a great example of this). Most people don't use their brains when buying hardware; most buy something because they were up-sold something by a salesman, they were convinced by an ad (or peers), or because they like big numbers. There's a stereotype of kids with a 1080Ti who just use it to play Minecraft and indie games for a reason.

I already explained why it's stupid - there's no demographic it caters to. Unless it outperforms the 1080 (which would just be confusing), it will sit between 2 GPUs that are a better value at what they're best at; a 1070 will play games 2K@60FPS just as well at the Ti while costing less. The 1080 will probably play VR games better than the 1070Ti, while also probably costing roughly the same. So what's the point of the 1070Ti?

Those are fair points. Keep in mind, I have nothing against products being faster than a 1080Ti. If Nvidia released a 1090, I would be excited and say "this is great!" but instead they released something that does nothing more than clutter the product line, and confuse consumers.

What is a smart product?
A product that beats the competition and sells well.
See: GTX1070Ti if they launch one.
What is a stupid product?
A product that launches a year late, doesn't beat the competition, doesn't launch with sufficient stocks, over priced.
See: RX Vega 64
Will I buy a 1070Ti? No, I'm not in the GPU market... But I'm all for NVIDIA launching a 1070Ti to rub salt on the gaping wound that is RX Vega.

No... that would be a successful product. A product can be complete garbage but still sell well, and therefore be a success. Take this for example:
http://time.com/3634443/cards-against-humanity-poop-black-friday/
Or as another example, Pet Rocks.
In the perspective of the company and investors, these could be smart products. But to anyone else who wants to make an informed or worth-while decision, they're dumb. Note that value doesn't correlate to how dumb a product may be. The 1070Ti could have a great price; still doesn't detract the pointlessness of its existence.
To clarify, I'm not saying Vega 64 wasn't a dumb product, because I think that too is dumb, if not dumber than the 1070Ti.

You're talking about binning? Full GP104 is GTX1080. AMD bins their chips too, I don't see the difference? Honestly I don't even get the fixation on chip size/cut/full or whatever. I buy based on performance and price and Nvidia sets their pricing based on the performance. If Nvidia launches GTX2080/1180 or whatever and it's full GV100 cut in a quarter, why do I care if its magically $500 for 35% more performance than GTX1080Ti? If anything doing this probably hurts Nvidia at some point as their pricing structure with TSMC is per wafer and not per working die.
