Gigabyte Releases AORUS Gen4 SSD NVMe SSDs

Gigabyte outs a PCIe gen 4 compatoble SSD series, the AORUS Gen4 SSD NVMe SSDs. Available i 500GB, 1TB and 2TB these SSDs look like OEM kits that you've seen already in the form of Phison based products.

The controller is a Phison "PS5016-E16" with a manufacturing process of 28nm, and the NAND flash adopts a high-speed 96-layer 3D TLC NAND flash of 800MT/s, very likely from Toshiba/ Kioxia.  The capacity lineup consists of 3 models of 2TB, 1TB, and 500GB, and the transfer speed is 5,000MB/sec for sequential read, 4,400MB/sec for write (2,500MB/sec for 250GB), 750,000 IOPS for random read (400,000 IOPS for the same), write 700,000 IOPS (550,000 IOPS).

MTBF is 1.77 million hours, write endurance is 2TB 3,600TBW, 1TB is 1,800TBW, 500GB is 850TBW, and product warranty is 5 years. At the moment, there are no sales announcements for these products in the domestic market and thus prices remain a bit of a question marker.

I hope it's cheaper than their massively overpriced "gold" version:

You do a lot of copying files between local drives? Because that's the only real world thing these are faster at, and even then you'll only really see the benefit if you have two of them to copy between.

I am really hoping that now that the new consoles can actually make use of faster drives that it will trickle over to the PC side, but until it does, these are mostly a waste of money.
