Gigabyte outs beta BIOS for A320 boards bringing Ryzen 5000 support
During the introduction of the B550 chipset last year, AMD stated that the Ryzen 5000 CPUs would not be compatible with motherboards from the 300 or 400 series of the company's line of products. In the following months, the red camp somewhat reversed course, adding the B450 and X470 to the list of supported models. And Guess what?
The original 300 series chipsets never acquired compatibility for the Ryzen 5000 processor. In terms of technology, it's however possible if the BIOS storage size is big enough. Individual end-users have reported success with a hack or two, and later on ASRock even provided support in the form of a beta BIOS version for a variety of motherboards. Gigabyte is the latest company to join this list, but on a smaller scale.
The manufacturer has released beta firmware for a small number of various A320 models, which will support the whole Ryzen 5000 line of desktop processors when it becomes available. The updated bios versions are based on the Agesa microcode version 1.2.0.3B, which is version 1.2.0.3B.
It specifically affects the A320M-S2H (revisions 1, 2, and 3) as well as the A320M-H (also revisions 1/2/3) Gigabyte (A320M-H) , Gigabyte (A320M-S2H). No explanation has been provided as to why these specific boards were chosen; other, more elegant, and costly Gigabyte variants from the same time period do not perform any better than Ryzen 3000. It is unclear whether Gigabyte intends to expand this capability to include further motherboards.
