Doesn't that... look like it should have been like that from the start? Passive chipset cooling?

Some had it, Gigabyte included but that board variant threw in a bit of everything over the already pricey Master variant board to something like 999 US Dollars for the Elite with bunch of extras plus passive chipset cooling.
Dark Hero or something for Asus and I think MSI or a few others had similar designs but potentially again for the more premium ("really costly.") designs of the X570's and maybe the B550's too.
This has oh what was it some design changes to need less power or voltage or something so the chipset doesn't heat up, no clue what so ever if that does anything for performance like memory and such but probably not.
~ I'm on a Gigabyte board though recently updated to the 1.2.0.3 Patch A something AGESA bios but it's a Gigabyte board they have this thing for just pumping like 1.2v straight into the SOC / chipset stuff rather than a more balanced 1.0 maybe 1.2 with XMP though at least the board is built to take it. Allegedly.

Auto apparently means all-in here.
Can't really say much as to SOC, power draw and voltage as a result since these and a few other vendors tend to hit the motherboard defaults fairly hard for whatever possible gains or occasional overclock stability can be drawn on.
Seems like a ongoing thing since back with at least the 300 series boards too and doing much the same from what I found, at least users can mostly balance it back down to AMD defaults or less non-standard values through the bios.

Kind of want try that Gigabyte X570S Aorus Master.

Really had a great experience with their GPUs so far both the one I had and the
one I sold to a family member. Not heard of any issues from them so far.
Both MSI and ASUS X570 motherboards had really silent fans that made me buy
and try them. Mostly cause reviews of both here on Guru3D.

The ASUS X570 is good but a little warm I do not think I seen the chipset fan stop
while it is on and I really do not like the way bios is setup on it. Settings seems all
over the place. Not that I do much except some changes to RAM settings.
Do not get me wrong ASUS makes some really nice hardware and I understand
why they are popular.
I really like the MSI X570 I have most so far. It behave very good and it is easy to
find settings in bios. Seems colder and chipset fan stops on idle. Really like the
M-Flash option cause it is easy to see progress on bios updates and it have similar
bios update as the ASUS if needed.
Just curios how this Gigabyte board behave with AMD CPU to make it easier to
choose for next gen.
Going to look at old X570 AORUS Master review how bios looks.
Is bios easy to upgrade on Gigabyte motherboards and do they have bios update
option like MSI M-Flash?
Bios update with USB like the ASUS is ok, but bios update from Windows
is a no go. :p

X570 master is probably one of the best boards out there. Quality and vrms are top notch. Q-flash is even easier than m-flash so yeah.
Downside to gigabyte boards are always late bios updates and crappy windows software.

Same audio solutions as the current batch, single ethernet and dropped Thunderbolt from the 'creator' board.
Let's see if Asus can deliver.
