Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 ROCK 8G comes with older WF3 cooler

Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 ROCK 8G comes with older WF3 cooler

Gigabyte released a new GTX 1080 SKU, and surprisingly enough this one has the old (yet excellent) WindForce 3X model cooler. The card can be found under code GV-N1080G1 ROCK-8GD and really is the GeForce GTX 1080 WindForce OC tagged is as G1 Rock edition :)

So this one is not exactly in line with the G1.Gaming series, but now G1.Rock edition (must be an Asia region thing with Guitar hero or something). Anyway the specs themselves are all roughly the same though, a 1632 MHz core, 1771 MHz GPU Boost and 10 GHz (GDDR5X-effective) memory would be the clock frequencies. The card has a proper nice back-plate as well. The G.1Rock has a single 8-pin PCIe power connector and display outputs include 3x DisplayPort 1.4, 1x HDMI 2.0b and 1x dual-link DVI.

Had such cooler on my 980's. ROCK i guess because its Rock Solid card, and PCB is a bit longer.

whether 'ROCK' it means that the GPU than use "older WF3 cooler" can be interpreted as strong as stone or resilient so .., hopefully it seems .. :)

Excellent shroud and fans. Had them on my 980G1 and miss them for my 1080 xtreme with its garbage cooler plastic quality!

I personally will never buy from Gigabyte again specifically because of that exact cooler.
I had one on my GTX 470, every fan died within a year. Strapping a 120mm case fan was more effective then all of those fans in working order. That 470 was also the worst coil whine ever. Oh, and it overclocked like crap.

You're forgetting that compared to others, which cool just as well, it's loud as a jet at equivalent cooling. All all bark, no bite.

And I'm still furious that they pulled a fast one and switched out the A grade Samsung RAM that all review samples had for reject C grade Hynix RAM with little OC room.
