GeForce RTX 3090 Ti gets TDP above 450W and new power connector

GeForce RTX 3090 Ti gets TDP above 450W and new power connector

Yeah, you've read that right, Ti, and not SUPER. According to reports on the internet, sources have obtained a copy of the specs. More cores are available, as well as a quicker memory structure. The power supply architecture has also been revised to improve efficiency.

As previously stated, the total design power (tdp) has been increased by 100 watts to 450 watts when compared to the RTX 3090. Another difference is that the Ampere GPUs would use a new power connector, which would not be the Molex MicroFit 12 pin connector that was introduced with the Ampere Founders Editions. In the documentation, there is mention of a MicroFit connector with 16 pins, which would be suited for products that use PCI Express gen 5. The video memory is believed to be made up of 2GB modules that can transfer data at a rate of 21 gigabits per second, resulting in a theoretical maximum bandwidth of more than 1TB/s. With a memory bus of 384 bits, it's still approximately 24 gigabytes of gddr6x memory. The GPU is a GA102 with 10752 Cuda cores distributed across 84 streaming multiprocessors, which is fully enabled. The printed circuit board would have to be changed, most likely to accommodate the altered memory arrangement and to deal with the high total dynamic power.

It is thought that the card, along with the RTX 2060 12GB and 16GB 3070 Ti, will be unveiled in January. The latter card will also use 2GB VRAM chips, but will not include a redesigned board design like the former. According to VideoCardz, there are no Super versions in the works at the present time.

6800/6800XT/6900XT/6900XTXH are all litterally the same card

6800 and 6800XT are binned versions with parts of the hardware disabled as they didn't meet the 6900XT spec or for product segmentation. Much like the 3080 is a binned version of the 3090. They are technically not the same now, but they began as the same.

The 6900XT and the XTXH are the same chips that meet a higher spec but essentially the same chips on a finished hardware level.

This 3090Ti is just their "XTXH" version of the normal 3090, with higher board power and a shiny new connector for you to struggle to hide.

GPUs are at a premium. Nvidia needs SKUs like this to justify even sillier prices. No point for them to waste good dies on lower tier cards for less money.

At first I thought this was so incredibly stupid, but when you consider the cost and power consumption of a dual-3080Ti setup, suddenly, it makes a little more sense.
Key word is "a little". It still doesn't make sense. This is more of a "because we can" device, but is really impractical.

It also starts to make more sense when you realize Nvidia is likely just increasing their profits selling top-binned chips at a higher price that are guaranteed to be sold.
