GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GA102-250 GPU revealed and ends up in RTX 3090
An interstring post on the web shows that Nvidia has been shuffling around GPUs a little. One use purchased the flagship RTX 3090 in the Founders Edition and wanted to apply water cooling. But then when the GPU became visible, he noticed the laser engraving on the GPU was initially GA102-250-KD-A1 - a GPU intended for the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti.
That GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is now said to be based on the GA102-225 GPU. Now the remarkable thing, the meantime. The engraving on the chip has been changed back to GA102-300-A1, as is to be expected for a GeForce RTX 3090. So in short, we all know it's the same GPU series, just reconfigured. However, NVIDIA had planned GA102-250-KD-A1, and then has repurposed the same GPU to GA102-300-A1. And to actually see a changed laser etch not the chip, well that is remarkable.

GA102-300 GPU with its 82 SMs is used on the GeForce RTX 3090. According to the latest rumors, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti uses the GA102-225 GPU with 80 SMs, while at the end of 2020 there was still talk of the GA102-250-KD-A1 GPU with 78 SMs for the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. There have been several rumors about the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti in the past few weeks. Rumors still point to a release in May.

I don't get it. The difference between a decent 3080 and a 3090 is minimal at best.
Where is this new 3080Ti gonna come in because there's like a 8fps difference now between 3080/3090.
If it is faster than the 3090 in games then i'll shit myself because i have a 3090(£2200) on order and am close now to getting it.

Funny!
So in all the post related to this topic, I still have not seen anybody directly address the 'elephant in the room'...namely the chip is being found on an RTX3090 while slated for an RTX3080.
What else is changed or downgraded?

Hmmm. Still not convinced we'll ever see this coming around... if yes, at what price?
