GeForce GTX 1080 Ti resurrected from the dead?

GeForce GTX 1080 Ti resurrected from the dead?

And yes, we do mean that literally, as the GPU has been declared end-of-life for a long time already. But, much like the production ramp-up for 1050 Ti and RTX 2060, the GTX 1080 Ti might be revived.

Recently a user of South Korean tech platform Quasar Zone had his four-year-old GTX 1080 To returned the card for a repair, and he received a brand new 1080 Ti as a replacement. He had a peek, and despite this GPU being EOL; he noticed the serial number indicating the product was produced in 2021. Indicating it's a fresh batch.

It would not be uncommon for Nvidia to put an older GPU back into production with the current shortages, and older it is as it was released in 2017. Baked at 16nm FinFEt NVIDIA might have found some production capacity somewhere. Hey, it's still a very decent WQHD card.  There are so many contradictions to this story that I would not know where to begin. Perhaps a batch was fdabbed just for RMA replacements, who knows. So for now take it with a grain or two of salt and as-is.

I do not see this happening. And if it's happenng it will be by the time the entire GPU market is returning to normal or until hell freezes over. And then it's too late cashing-in on this reviving gimmick.

If tsmc has available 16nm capacity ....why not ? Well actually i should rephrase that cause tsmc has no not booked up capacity on any of their fabs new or old . If Nvidia has available capacity still ...why not ? If the card can hash well Nvidia will sell everything they produce as well.

In thepry what could have happened is that during this pandemic it's impossible to get the parts for the 30xx cards, and the fab factories were just sitting idle, so maybe the parts for the GTX1080 were still avaible and nvida decided to start a batch of them again to get the factories producing something that they could sell at this time........in theory.

I'm sure there are many of us here that wish we could go back in time and buy a 1080ti. It really is the best GPU ever made.
