GeForce GTX 1080 Ti announced at PAX March 10th?

GeForce GTX 1080 Ti announced at PAX March 10th?

So I was really hesitating to post this news-item as one site mentioned this rumor, and all of the sudden it becomes a reality on the web. Unfortunately we cannot stay behind with news, so here we go. The latest rumor is that Nvidia will be releasing the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti at PAX March 10th.

Now here's why I hesitated to post this item, it is a website called techbuyersguru (yeah I had not heard of them before either), that posted in an article with once small paragraph that goes like this:

It turns out that there really is such thing as the GTX 1080 Ti, and not only will it be available from board partners (MSI being one of the biggest), but it will be coming around PAX East 2017, which kicks off on March 10, 2017. You heard it here first, folks!

So that is the source, it is unconfirmed info, by an unnamed source. I mean if we write CeBIT 2017, would that make sense and be a fact? Earlier on the 1080 Ti was expected to launch in October, then Christmas and then everybody was certain it would be CES last week. So then, let's quickly close this article, and HOPE that the info is correct. Perhaps Nvidia simply is waiting and delaying their release until AMD VEGA is to be released ? Then again, delaying this product doesn't make much sense from a business point of view either.

What is GeForce GTX 1080 Ti?

The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will be using the GP102 silicon, similar as used for the Pascal processor used on the mighty Nvidia Titan X, however it has 4 out of 30 shader processor clusters disabled. That means 3,328 shader processors (52 SMs). If you do the math then your TMU count would get to 208 with a ROP count of 96. According to the screenshot the GPU itself will be clocked at 1503 MHz and 1623 MHz on the GPU Boost. The memory would be GDDR5 not GDDR5X as Pascal Titan X is using and then the shader count has been decreased towards 3328 shader cores, which is still 768 more compared to the GeForce GTX 1080.  The numbers add up towards a 10.8 GFLOP/s single precision performing product.  Charted up it looks like this:

GDDR5 memory would bring in 384GB/s of memory bandwidth, which would be the deal-breaker over a Titan X with its 480GB/s of bandwidth. It is still more then the 1080 though. The card will get a 250 Watt TDP. Pricing wise we know nothing of course, but the 1080 is at 699 USD, the Titan X at 1200 USD .. so somewhere in the middle ?

The Titan X won't drop in price so that the Ti with 90% its performance will look like a bargain at $800.

Well if they announce it on that day, which is my birthday, then it's obviously my destiny to buy it, because there is no point resisting destiny, right? :D
