GeForce GTX 1080 Fan issues to be solved with driver update

A few days ago there have been reports that some founder edition card holders have a few fan issues. Under gaming the fan RPM might spike upwards in short bursts, which is hear-able. The problem has now been identified by Nvidia and will be fixed with a driver update.

While the problem is identified, Nvidia doesn't see a need for an immediate hotfixdriver.

Manuel Guzman from Nvidia shares word on the matter. So far, the fix successfully passed internal testing at the company and Guzman has also stated that the next driver will get this fix. Users who are considering returning their cards because the problem will not need so may not do this anymore. Details on the nature of the problem allows Nvidia not known. The release date of the driver is not mentioned; Guzman simply indicated 'soon'.

In the past week were complaints show that the fan GTX 1080 Founders Edition would rotate at random moments in games at a very high speed and then the fan becomes noisy. The constant increase and decrease the speed of the fan was independent of the temperature of the card and was described as an annoying, loud sound reminiscent of 'a billowing ocean, "said one user.

AIB pertner cards will not have this issue, as all of them willnot reach the 80 degrees C temperature ceiling.

IMHO a cooler which sucks air from the PC case and blows the heat out of the PC case is much better, than coolers sucking the air from the PC case and blowing the heat back into the PC case. The latter solution requires much more efficient (and more noisy) PC case ventilation.

Theories are good. Evidence is better.
