Akasa released a new heatsink for M.2 drives, called the Gecko Pro. Working from their previous SSD heatsink, the new Smart Fin design improves airflow over the fins and allows optimum heat dissipation. The Gecko Pro is compatible with 2280 sized SATA and NVMe M.2 drives.

M.2 drives are increasingly becoming more important in PC builds, being a popular option for both laptops, tablets, and tower PCs. As the technology improves over time, they have become an essential in fast, reliable data storage. One problem that occurs when continuously reading and writing data to the drive is overheating; data transfer speeds are reduced at high temperatures.

Using a premium heatsink is important to protect the data stored on the drive. Akasa's Gecko Pro is machined out of high-quality aluminium which draws away as much excess heat from the drive as possible. The Smart Fin design allows for an improved airflow over traditional fans, as convectional currents within a PC case can flow smoothly over the fins—therefore increasing the heat dissipated from the SSD. A premium thermal pad is also included with the package, which can reduce SSD temperatures by up to 7% compared to commonly used thermal pads.

The mounting mechanism consists of two screws which is strong enough to effortlessly hold your M.2 drive, especially for vertically mounted motherboards, where an adhesive may not be enough to hold the heatsink. It also provides a robust contact with the thermal pad to prevent the drive from overheating and allow an efficient heat transfer.

The Gecko Pro starts at £7.99/€7.95 (prices may vary by reseller). The Gecko Pro is available to order throughout the UK and Europe.
