Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge go 1080P after update
Okay it's a bit of a weird title, but as many of you know Samsung started updating and rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat towards the the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The screen on this smart-phone series is 1440 x 2560 pixels. However after the update (users report) the phone starts in a 1080 x 1920 resolution.
It's sounded like a small goof up of some kind, but apparantly it is intentional. Samsung apparantly thinks that running the phone at 1080P will improve battery life. Not a bad idea, but I doubt if you spend 700~800 USD on a phone you expcected a 1080P screen reolution. As an S7 Edge owner myself, heck no. Battery life is fine already + Samung .. you are selling a phone with a native 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution.
If this happens to you, you can easily fix it by changing towards 1440 x 2560 pixels in your preferences for Nougat:
- Open Settings on your Galaxy S7.
- Select Display » Screen resolution.
- Move the slider to set your preffered display size between HD, FHD and WQHD.
- Select APPLY from the top-bar to set your changes.

I think they made it this way because the default resolution on Nougat is 1080p, so you have a game mode which retains 1080p but enables the game tools, then entertainment whish bumps to WQHD but this time enables the video/audio enhancers, and the last is high perf which is WQHD without anything enabled.
Like I said, I don't now if they make any changes to gpu/cpu.

The S7 has been pretty good when it comes to updates, alot better than they used to be.
All the companies have, Android phones are not as neglected as they used to be when it comes to supporting updates.

And I will probably not have android 6 on my work's phone, the Galaxy Xcover 3...

Generally the case with OEMs, support for 2~ years then dropped, usually get 2-3 versions of Android per model
S5 had Kitkat > Lollipop > Marshmallow
S7 Had Marshmallow > Nougat > O?
Not sure what the S6 started with, but it's a fair guess it will end up with three major OS upgrades too

Lower resolution seems to be a little bluried, but thst is because is not the native rezolution. At 720p my phone last about 3 days and i'm using it about 5-7 hours with display on. On 1080p about the same a bit less, but 1440p indeed goes again in the same almost 2 days of use.
I really dont't understand the need for 1440p on 5 inch display, the only reason should be a VR device, but I can live without it or just I can switch for 1440p again.
