Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge go 1080P after update

Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge go 1080P after update

Okay it's a bit of a weird title, but as many of you know Samsung started updating and rolling out Android 7.0 Nougat towards the the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The screen on this smart-phone series is 1440 x 2560 pixels. However after the update (users report) the phone starts in a 1080 x 1920 resolution.

It's sounded like a small goof up of some kind, but apparantly it is intentional. Samsung apparantly thinks that running the phone at 1080P will improve battery life. Not a bad idea, but I doubt if you spend 700~800 USD on a phone you expcected a 1080P screen reolution. As an S7 Edge owner myself, heck no. Battery life is fine already + Samung .. you are selling a phone with a native 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution.

If this  happens to you, you can easily fix it by changing towards 1440 x 2560 pixels in your preferences for Nougat:

  1. Open Settings on your Galaxy S7.
  2. Select Display » Screen resolution.
  3. Move the slider to set your preffered display size between HD, FHD and WQHD.
  4. Select APPLY from the top-bar to set your changes.

I believe they can even scale down to 720p.

I remember reading an article that noticed this during the beta testing, and they also said there was no noticeable battery improvements.

They also claimed that its difficult to even notice the resolution drop, the update hasn't been rolled out to me yet so can't check myself.

Flash the BTU version of Marshmallow using ODIN and you'll get the OTA update to the final Nougat once you're back online

Is this gonna void my warranty?

Is this gonna avoid my warranty?

No, only flashing custom trips the KNOX flag which voids warranty, flashing stock with ODIN keeps KNOX at 0x0

Already done this myself to get Nougat as my CSC was XEU and it's not released for XEU yet
