Following Xilinx's $49 billion acquisition, investors now value AMD higher than Intel. The chipmaker topped Intel's market value of $193.70 billion with a market capitalisation of about $198 billion (at the time of writing).

AMD currently has 1.628 billion total shares, up from 1.2 billion prior to the Xilinx transaction. When you combine it with a share price that is more than double that of Intel, you have a market value of about $200 billion.

It is important to note that market capitalisation typically symbolizes what the market (and investors) demand from the firm, so implicitly anticipating future growth potential. In actuality, AMD still owns just one-third of the global x86 CPU market, with Intel controlling the remainder. However, as a result of the Xilinx merger/acquisition, AMD will now have access to a far larger market, including 5G equipment, IoT, autonomous driving technologies, embedded, and other networking devices. In comparison, NVIDIA has a market value of $662 billion, which is more than 50 percent greater than the combined capitalization of AMD and Intel. With its drive into AI, neural networks, accelerators, and cutting-edge graphics cards, the chipmaker has positioned itself at the vanguard of current computing and graphics architectures.
