First Kaby Lake Processors Ready in December
The first Kaby Lake Processors will be ready for delivery in December, this information is based on a new road-map from Intel. In October the first 'quality' samples will be ready. This generation will be the successor to the current Skylake generation.
The desktop PCu roadmap that Benchlife shared put the RTS products (ready to ship) ofg kaby lake in December. Intel is calling these units 4+2 cores quad cores (cpu+gpu cores). In the first stage of January 2018 duo-core CPUs will be released.
The roadmap confirms the rumor that Intel Kaby Lake for the desktop will sppear at CES 2017 in early January. The mobile chips for the next generation processor will probably released be sooner. The first laptops and tablets with the U and Y series of Kaby Lake processors are likely to be announced in early September at IFA 2017.
Kaby Lake is the third step in Intel's "process-architecture-optimization' strategy. The chips are, much like Broadwell and Skylake, produced at 14nm, but should get some optimizations, such as support for Optane-SSD's.

My 2500K replacement is in the horizon.

Unless i win the lottery in the meantime and go nuts with a Broadwell E or something.

Lets hope so. Seems like we stuck with Sandy for a such a long time.

Yes, Z270. I believe MSI already showed one off.
I do think older boards will have bios updates and allow compatibility
