Review: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti G1 Gaming SOC Edition

by Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 06/12/2015 08:04 AM | source: | 181 comment(s)

We review the custom GeForce GTX 980 Ti, the G1 Gaming SOC edition from Gigabyte. This graphics card is a power-house, where the reference cards run at 1 GHz,  in Gigabyte's OC modus, this puppy will default towards 1241 MHz on the base-clock and 1291 MHz on the Boost clock. Meanwhile the 600 Watt Windforce cooler makes sure that the fans remain disabled when the GPU is under a set temperature or at light load. On top of it you will spot a multi-color Illuminated LED LOGO design, you can pick the color of your preference.

Gigabyte has nice cooling solutions but both my previous 780 and my current 980 suck when it comes to OC. What I find maddening is that I'm able to get up to around +260 on the core without crashing outright or any artifacting but the driver inevitably crashes at random.

Sounds like the OC isn't 100% stable.
It sometimes takes a while for the OC to wreak havoc.
All it needs is for there to be a "hiccup" at one point, and thats it.

So far my 290 on water has virtually no headroom. +100/+100 core/mem.
still playing with the OC occassionally.

On Topic : This is one beast of a card !
Thoroughly beating a Titan X is no small feat.

Fixed it for you.

Damn this card is tempting...

It would stomp all over your 580SLi, and fit quite well into your system.
Just sayin' :)

yeah, it is almost on par with 980 SLI, which is MILES ahead of 580 SLI. If I was on 580 SLI, I'd just get a 980ti and be done with it.

We review the first ever custom GeForce GTX 980 Ti, the G1 Gaming SOC edition from Gigabyte.

REMOVED -> Seriously ?

Although this is besides the point that it's a great review of the Gigabyte version. Eagerly awaiting reviews of the custom ASUS ans MSI cards.
