Epic Game Store now has over 61 Million Monthly Active Users on PC
Giving away free games has the effect that more users will be using your platform, should Steam be worried? We tend to think so. EPIC applied a marketing plan called “The Vault”, to increase global awareness and drive new user acquisition.
“The Vault” campaign, which ran from May 14th through June 18th, featured a major, top-secret free game giveaway each week that players could acquire and keep forever.
“Since launching the Epic Games Store, we’ve always wanted to create a huge event around our very successful Free Games weekly program to give something awesome to players worldwide, and we decided to go big. We invested in acquiring the rights to give four of the biggest games in the world away free. We needed an agency partner who could execute big for us globally. Battery’s deep experience in gaming plus Havas Group’s media capabilities fit the bill. The results have exceeded our expectations,” said Steve Allison, GM Epic Games Store. “In 2020, we’ve been growing at a historic rate. Epic Games Store partners have a huge audience of players to sell their games to and receive 88% of the revenue, instead of only 70% as on other platforms.”
As a result of “The Vault” campaign, the Epic Games Store set many new user milestones, including average Peak Concurrent Users (PCCU) on PC of 13 million and Monthly Active Users (MAU) on PC of over 61 million.

I have. Got control for $21!
All of the samurai showdown games are nostalgia for my brains and those were free! Six games in total there.
And WWZ for $5. The division 2 for $3!!!
Yeah there are deals and games to be played if you're not some hater for whatever reason people are hating for.
So what it's not steam?!? Still don't know why people are truly hating on a delivery service.
Ah, so you're obviously spending about three times as much money on EGS as the average user!
And did I criticize the EGS, or did I question the numbers presented and the marketing push behind it that's probably not the full story?

btw multi quote's your friend!

They wouldn't do that if they couldn't afford it. Fortnite is raking in an absurd amount of cash. Their strategy is actually pretty smart. Epic knows that one of the main reasons people prefer Steam is because that's what they're used to and that's where most PC gamers have the majority of their game collection. So, by offering legitimately good titles for free, people are building up their EGS library with content they actually like. The bigger the library gets, the harder it is to abandon it. The more it is used, the more its storefront will be put into people's faces. A lot of people know devs are paid better on EGS, so it incentivizes them to buy there instead.
It's a long complicated plan, but it's very clearly working.

Go on to Steam during any new Sale event and watch how slow the service becomes. Epic gives you a meaningless message to hide their failures, Steam doesn't even bother to go that far.
I am interested if anyone happens to know off hand. How did Borderlands 3 do when it arrived on Steam? You see the general reaction prior to release was that everyone hated EGS and everyone was waiting for BL3 to appear on Steam before they bought it. (An opinion that is being pushed to all games doing the EGS timed exclusive)
Then BL3 launched on EGS, assuming GBX's statements are legit it went on to massively outsell BL2 but I never saw how well it did when it launched on Steam. Did it top the Steam charts? It didn't have much in the way of competition when it launched. What about Metero Exodus, did it have similar sales results?
Would these games not be good indicators of
a). EGS's strategy working
b). That their is a very vocal minority out there or an awful lot of total bullsh*tters

Amongst the $2000+ dollars of free games they've already given out I'm sure....
