Japanese based Elecom is now also offering a 10 Gigabit LAN card. It is good to see some wider adoption in the consumer market, and when it's from Asian companies like Elecom, it usually drives prices down.

Albeit these cards are still expensive, often hovering in a 150 USD region. The new EDB-10GMPE4T card will work over a standard Cat6 cable, meaning aside from a compatible switch your existing LAN wiring (most of it is CAT6e these days) you can benefit from your the new speeds without a need to rewire. With standard CAT 6 you'd still gain speeds like 5 or 10 Gigabit and with older CAT5e you're still looking at a 2 Gigabit connection.

The 10 Gigabit LAN card makes use of a PCI Express 2.0 (x4) connection, where you typically can transfer 125 MB/s over your ethernet, that could be 1250 MB/sec. Meet the future, we hope the technology advances quickly so it can become more affordable and gets more widespread in gear like NAS servers.

The card uses 6.1W of power when fully utilized, and is W 121 × D 84 × H 19 mm in size with a 38g weight. Supported OSes are Windows 10 / 8.1 / 8/7, Windows Server 2016/2012 R2 / 2012/2008 R2, Windows Storage Server 2016/2012 R2 / 2012/2008 R2, macOS 10.13 / 10.12.6.

Pricing is to be announced but expected to be in the 150 USD/EURO ranges.
