EA Blames PS4 Day-One Patch For Instability Issues

EA Blames PS4 Day-One Patch For Instability Issues

A has released a statement today saying that the crashing, freezing and bricking in all PS4 games (not just EA's) is due to Sony's day-one patch. Sony has released a firmware update for the PlayStation 4 that is required for many features on the console. However, this update also results in stability issues while playing games on the system.

This affects all games on the PS4, including EA titles, causing crashing/freezing and non-responsive connections between the player's console and their TV Screen.

Unfortunately since it's an issue with Sony's firmware, it requires a new update to fix it. Sony is working to resolve the issue as quickly as they can. They will update their System Update page as new versions are made available, and we will keep this page updated as we find out more.

A representative from Electronic Arts responded to this story saying: "The message on EA’s Help site was posted in error. Players with questions about PS4 connectivity can visit https://support.us.playstation.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5102 for the latest updates."

The original story appears below

In a post on the official Electronic Arts help forums (which has subsequently been unpublished), the publisher claimed that the recent firmware update for PlayStation 4 has resulted in "stability issues while playing games on the system."

Earlier this morning, Sony asked for patience in the face of some connection issues due to high levels of traffic. However, the post from Electronic Arts claimed that the problems caused by the 1.5 update "affect all games on the PS4, including EA titles, causing crashing/freezing and non-responsive connections between the player's console and their TV Screen."

Since this is an issue caused by the hardware's firmware, the blog says, "Sony is working to resolve the issue as quickly as they can." While GameSpot has not experienced any significant issues with either the network or games on the PlayStation Network, we've reached out to other publishers to see if their titles have experienced similar issues

Update: EA's statement has been removed (likely att the request of Sony)

The official release date for the PlayStation 4 is November 15, 2013. You can preorder PS4 from Amazon

I'm not saying they are the best company out there, but they are certainly not the worst.

Really dude?!?! Consoles are for kids? Way to be that guy. Console are for those that do not want to be bothered with driver problems and trying to get the games to run smooth.

According to the beeb that's 0.4% of units shipped to date affected. So if that's 1 million then basic maths shows 4,000 screw-ups.

4,000, not 40,000.

Not a huge amount, but Sony should avoid using the word acceptable, plus we won't know the actual number for a few weeks.
