Download: Quake II RTX Download version 1.2

For those interested, I have added Quake II RTX towards our file-mirror. NVIDIA is revamping Id Software's 1997 hit game Quake II with RTX path-traced global illumination. The game has been updated towards v1.2 today, you'll need the 441.41 drivers released today as well.

Am I right in saying if this can run on non-RTX cards, then this "demo" will not engage the RT cores in any case should you run it on an RTX card?

Same as Neon Noir?
You're mistaken. Q2RTX does utilize RT cores when run on RTX cards.

It can run on all Pascal and Turing 16-series cards aswell but it will then use shader cores instead of RT cores for the ray tracing tasks which is very inefficient, resulting in much lower framerates.

So no, not like Neon Noir.

What does this update do? I've played quite a lot on patch 1.1 but have had issues with stutter if the FPS goes below cap (for example 80fps).

Improved textures and dynamic resolution scaling among other things. Here's an article about changes with comparison screenshots:

One downside I noticed is that GI color bleed (?) can look pretty blotchy and bad in some places. This is pretty different to 1.1.

Thanks!

Mostly good additions but some things are worse, for example the shadows are less pronounced in 1.2
