I'm pretty sure every so often M$ flags a driver as a security update instead of driver, and if you don't have that version or newer, it will force an update no matter what. You have to completely disable windows updates or disconnect internet before driver removal to be be sure your new driver install will not be "hijacked" by M$.
I like to to it with a registry file "toggle and reboot" that completely blocks all windows updates until toggled back on (windows update attempts will just give you a glorious "something went wrong" error, best error ever!). Copy/paste the following into two "named-what-you-like.reg" text files and double click them to use + reboot for effect:
Windows Updates Disabled.reg
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
"DoNotConnectToWindowsUpdateInternetLocations"=dword:00000001
"DisableWindowsUpdateAccess"=dword:00000001
"UseWUServer"=dword:00000001
Windows Updates Enabled.reg
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
"DoNotConnectToWindowsUpdateInternetLocations"=-
"DisableWindowsUpdateAccess"=-
"UseWUServer"=-
EDIT: This assumes you don't already have an unwanted driver from windows updates stored in "C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository".
Check and/or remove unused, stored drivers with Driver Store Explorer. A no-bloat, light, portable, handy little program.

EDIT2: So far so good with these drivers. No problems.
Sometimes it doesnt work, i dont know why..happened to me also, its weird.

Selfish snob
Yeah you'r right, 456.89 is the last best driver
You sir/madam are irrelevant. Good Bye.
Now back to what matters in this thread. Nvidia screwed the pooch and released a dud driver. Par for the course for the last 4-5 years; AMD is no better but they break things in other ways. They were quicker to catch it than the norm and issue a hotfix driver. Now if they can just get a handle on making and distributing 3000 series cards; guess they will figure it out eventually. Should not be launching new products if they cannot secure sufficient parts to manufacture said products. Just creates animosity with the customers. Should not have to pay triple MSRP for a product that should have wide spread distribution.

interesting, i kept having issues with the other 466.x drivers. The gpu wouldn't send signal if it had set the screen asleep and the tv had been turned off; half the time on turning the tv back on I would still have no signal (with LG C9 4k@100hz). I've been using 461.92 the last few days, they don't seem to have the issue.
I may give these a go.
