Those are the same monitors, both are g-sync compatible (unofficially working fine), both should be officially supported by Nvidia drivers.
Same situation with AOC 27G2 which was officially supported by Nvidia g-sync compatible a long time ago and this is the same monitor as 24G2W1G4 and 24G2W1G8 but with 27" screen. If there are some differences they are minor like USB Hub or build in speakers.
Panel is also a minor change - earlier manufactured by china company Panda. About the new one - I don't know who is responsible for manufacture but I know that overall parameters are still the same.
IMO this is stupid situation.
They are not the same monitor, the G8 has a revised LCD panel which passes nvidia's testing requirements.
AOC bait and switch, product refresh without model number change, the G4 will not be certified because of its Flickering.
Feel free to turn it on manually, but thats just how it is.
Refer to the video @ 7:13 to 8:20

Updating your graphies card drivers to the latest version might solve the issue.
Trying a 'Scan and Repair' can help a.s well.

Still in my opinion this is stupid situation because AOC 27G2 has older Panda panel and should also flicker if I have to believe your words but despite this it was officially certified by Nvidia a long time ago.
------------------
In that video he talk about Freesync only, not g-sync compatible. I never had any flickering issue. Also there is a chance that his monitor is somehow damaged or panel is not best quality, pure bad luck.

As of the last conversation with Manuel (15/4), this has not been root caused yet, issue could be Client Side or Driver as updates for both landed when the issue began.
