What makes you say that? Just because they teamed up with Nvidia? They do care about us! Heck they've gone on air saying just that.

From my understanding it all comes down to AMD implementing (as in: "emulating" = lower fps) and adding support for Nvidia technologies.

Anything using PhysX, for the AMD gpu owner means it'll occur on CPU (PhysX instructions being executed on the CPU) which as you can imagine, is inherently slower (it's not emulated) and other gameworks features often just use rendering techniques that are designed to run on nVidia hardware (and the tin foil hat, designed to run slowly on AMD hardware), compound that with UE4 being developed with nVidia anyway.

I'm sifting through the Assetto Corsa forums now to find the post where it was stated that support for AMD GPUs would only extend to "just working" (and this was before RTX announcements) - there isn't really anything AMD can do to optimise for though without impacting image quality (other than tidying up API overhead).

Perhaps though like you say with the announcement they made on air, they've retracted the previous statements (which might explain why I can't find the thread).

Cross your fingers but don't hold out any hope - it's really upto Kunos to ensure it'll run well (especially so if it's going to use DX12 or Vulkan) but I will say at least their support is looking to be better than for example Slightly Mad Studios and Project Cars (whom Ian Bell is an absolute... well he's a horrible man and the devs working under him apparently aren't treated well) so it'll look to be a better game for it in comparison.

Edit: I can't find the thread or any mention of support for AMD being sidelined anywhere... so take my post with a large grain of salt and me being cynical.

@Only Intruder This seems like P.Cars launch all over again!
I'm not sure how many times it needs to be said, that just because the game makes use of PhysX doesn't mean that the game will run it on the GPU.
P.Cars was the exact same story, I had to F****** record a damn video with my laptop just to show off that even forcing PhysX to the GPU the game wasn't using it on the GPU but instead on the CPU, whatever you would be using, nvidia, intel, amd or a potato.
PhysX just runs on the GPU, if the devs are using the Advanced PhysX package, and those are the deformative cloth, the persistent particles that stays on the scenario for minutes and pretty much nothing more than that.

Same goes for this game.
As for the performance, after so many years of UE4, it's no secret that Epic's engine runs best on nvidia thanks to a big parternship that exist for decades between Tim Sweeney and Jensen, a lot of nvidia technologies are embedded into UE4 that grants better peroformance to nvidia.
This is nothing comparing to the old days, people are failing to remember the 2 exclusive maps from UT3 that only worked for nvidia Users with PhysX, all the rest of the people weren't allowed to play those 2 maps, funny thing is, we pay for a game and we aren't allowed to play 1/5 of the maps LOL.

As for SMS P.Cars release, devs never liked AMD, there was a big war between both AMD and SMS devs during the development, that escalated to a point that even AMD said they weren't welcome on the dev's compound, optimization was a crap on AMD side, but with time and with each update to the game, the game started to yield more and more performance on the AMD side, suggesting that they start to optimize for it after release, this got a to a point that P.Cars 2 runs just fine on both brands, even P.Cars 1 runs great on AMD now, still gets advantage to nvidia, but far are the days where the advantage was huge.

Cheers...

I have to agree with what is said. The developer is also the one who introduced a game called NFS Shift 1 and Shift 2. They were indeed good racing simacades but, back then, ATI support was atrocious. Here is what ATI said officiall about it:
In another TWIMTBP* title, we submitted a list of issues that we discovered during the games’ development. These issues include inefficiencies in how the game engine worked with our hardware in addition to real bugs, etc.. We have sent this list to the developer for review.

Unfortunately you will be unable to get a fair assessment of our hardware’s performance on this software until the developer releases a patch to address and fix our reported issues.

https://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/09/22/amds-ati-radeon-hd-5870-video-card-review/10

As was stated earlier the relationship between both organizations wasn't all that great IMO. ATI, rightly, called them out via media. Which started the ball rolling into releasing a patch with an whopping 26% improvement in ati cards.
http://www.legitreviews.com/new-need-for-speed-shift-patch-boosts-amd-gpu-performance_1130/3

But that alone didn't really get pCars performing well with AMD cards. Little did anyone know at the time win10 would come to the rescue:

To be exact under DX12, Project Cars AMD performance increases by a minimum of 20% and peaks at +50% performance. The game is a true DX11 title. But just running under DX12 with it's less reliance on the CPU allows for massive performance gains. The problem is that Win 10 / DX12 don't launch until July 2015 according to the AMD CEO leak. Consumers need that performance like 3 days ago!

https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/366iqs/nvidia-gameworks-project-cars-and-why-we-should/

The performance from Pcars 1/2 came from win10 of all things. Something AMD was able to do in win10 that they weren't able to do in win7/8.1. That plays a big role as to why pCars run decently with AMD cards to this very day.

Nice performance bump for AMD cards with win10. For those who were into pCars had to upgrade to win10 to get that performance increase. Which, IMO, started the rumor that win10 was faster then win7/8.1.

From the developer of pCars:
...
Some great gains we saw from an earlier driver they released have been lost in a later driver they released. So I'd say driver is where we start.

Again, if there's anything we can do we will.

I've now conducted my mini investigation and have seen lots of correspondence between AMD and ourselves as late as March and again yesterday.

The software render person says that AMD drivers create too much of a load on the CPU. The PhysX runs on the CPU in this game for AMD users. The PhysX makes 600 calculations per second on the CPU. Basically the AMD drivers + PhysX running at 600 calculations per second is killing performance in the game. The person responsible for it is freaking awesome. So I'm not angry. But this is the current workaround without all the sensationalism.

The best advice I can give while we work with AMD is to reduce settings which influence CPU load. Specifically in this order:

Shadow Detail -> Medium
Reflections -> Medium
Environment Map-> Medium
Car Detail -> Medium or High

https://hardforum.com/threads/project-cars-devs-address-amd-performance-issues.1861353/page-2#post-1041593386

But AMD cards are still slower then its competing card. As pCars 1/2 still uses physx. Yes, physx: https://www.pcgamer.com/project-cars-studio-denies-it-intentionally-crippled-performance-on-amd-cards/

IMO, the issue with ACC reminds me of this all over again.

I too had a thread on the subject here:
https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/rtg-will-crimson-drivers-have-support-for-assetto-corsa-competizione.421418/

Here is a thread that thoroughly discuss the performance between AMD/Nvidia. Even stating that AMD hasn't even provided support. Which is similar to me asking them about support and not getting an answer.
https://www.assettocorsa.net/forum/index.php?threads/is-acc-going-to-run-worse-on-amd-cards.50450/page-4

This really sheds some light on the situation.

Edit:
Sorry for the long read. But I wanted to provide some pointers to history about the info via links about the drivers of ATI/AMD and games that are involved with TWIMTBP program.
