AMD has released a new chipset patch, the company includes several crucial security fixes. In general, it applies to practically all platforms that are utilized in conjunction with a Zen CPU (including Threadripper).

Although the release notes for version 3.08.17.735 do not explicitly mention what changes have been made, a comparison with the previous version reveals that significant improvements have been made to the AMD PSP driver. The MicroPEP driver has also been updated to include a number of bug improvements, as well as support for more device IDs.

It is unclear which security flaws exactly have been addressed and which ones will remain open. If you are using a motherboard that is equipped with one of the aforementioned chipsets, it is in a good idea to update to the latest driver version. AMD suggests that you uninstall it first through the control panel.

Fixes a critical vulnerability in the PSP driver, not the CPU, looks to me.

PSP driver fix is for the co-processor which works similar to Intel IME, only good to get a remote hole patched, although we could wish that they wouldn't add that feature to our CPU's to begin with.

I wonder what happens if you just uninstall this, or never install it in the first place. What exactly do you lose?

Windows will update them over time.
What you lose out on are security and performance/bug fixes right here and now.

This won't install for me. I keep getting an error message about an Account already existing. Error 1316 the specified user already exists, even if i try one at a time it still says the same.

AMD says that there's a fix for this by installing MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab.zip and running it first and to also remove C:/AMD chipset folder.

I haven't tried this though and might not bother for now.

If you get 1316 you can manually install faster than the software operates.
