I played the closed beta on the weekend and it was awful IMO
The multiplayer which is all the closed beta allowed was very similar to Unreal Tournament and had graphics to suit - they were terrible actually.
Very disappointed with what I saw, won't be buying this title.
I also got the chance to play the beta on ps4 and my initial impressions are not good. First off the graphics did not look anything like those impressive promo screenshots. The multiplayer felt very generic. But I can how it can appeal to the hardcore group of multiplayer gamers as it did feel like the classic UT or even Quake games. Hopefully the singleplayer portion plays better.

Played both closed Alpha and Beta tests for a short time. Typical mp fragga boom jumping around like Quake or Unreal. Nothing for me, waiting for campaign.

So it's pretty average from what people have played so far, seems it's only the hardcore fan boys who are sticking up for it
Seems these people want a game with:
* 1 dificulty level, WTF I'M DEAD ALREADY?
* Military style planning for every level where 1 mistake means death, because hey, we've all been brought up as military strategists right?
* 1 hit instakill so no no need for health regen, but hey, health regen just been a game game mechanic in most shooters since day one!
* No cover to hide behind because constantly being on the move and dodging never ending masses of hell spawn and their bullets is 'way more fun' than actually clearing a level and exploring it for secrets and stuff!!
* Pistol and Shotgun ONLY, because there's no carrying more weapons than is humanly possible in this DOOM game, that's just for girls, right?
* No save state, ANYWHERE, so do it in one playthrough you MUTHAS!!
And if the bugs that pop up and contribute to your demise, don't worry, it's a feature you'll accept and start right back at the beginning again, because it's the DOOM game you wanted!!
Did I mention DOOM/DOOMII/DOOMIII had health regen and cover, the things a proper 'back to it's roots' DOOM game doesn't have?

I think you might be disappointed with this game then if multiplayer is anything to go by.
No in-game weapon drops, you loadout your class before the round aka COD.
The longer you play, the better perks you earn so you can start with more weapons and/or armour.
This is not the doom the classic players wanted. It's tailored for the modern gamer
**WE WANT PISTOL AND FIST TO START EVERY ROUND AND TAKE OUT THAT F***ING ROCKET LAUNCHING SKELETON!**
It appears that you have either never played a doom game before or simply are a hater. What you described is DOOM in it's best colors. And those who loved the old ones are willing to cash out on a game that follows it's roots. I personally am sick of all battlefields & CoDs. Doom&Quake were the games I fell in love with and I have been waiting years for a proper successor. And it seems that I will get what I waited for. If you are not a fan, good, noted. But your hate speech is ridiculous mate
