Diablo IV Confirmed as Online-Only
Blizzard has confirmed that Diablo 4 will not have an offline mode. Speaking during a panel held at BlizzCon 2019, lead designer Angela Del Priore addressed a question about whether the game can be played solo and whether it will support "a full offline mode."
"We are not going to support an offline mode," Del Priore replied. "But as I said before, nothing in DIablo 4 is going to require partying up. You can play solo and dungeons are private. Campain quest areas will [also] remain private."
So although you will need an internet connection for the game to work, you can still play solo if you don’t want to group up with people. Players who are already familiar with the franchise likely won’t be bothered by this, as the exact same structure has been in place in Diablo 3 for seven years. However, newcomers may not be aware of the fact that online play isn’t mutually exclusive from solo play, and may be deterred from playing if that isn’t made explicitly clear.

if they kept the same f2p mobile mechanics no thx
- leveling through items "only" is pure dev laziness, it's zero work to just raise the rolls on items and call that leveling, it should be like borderlands or other games, more skill points new skills or even branching to a new sub-class not just "go grind better gear and pay to reroll stats"
- the worst offender : skills locked behind items you have to grind, wth >< d3 had lots of skills completely useless without item or set X, unacceptable ! items should be a boost to an existing build not the entirety of it, a set is a set not a build ! (requiring mana regen, health steal or whatever is different, in D3 the skill radically change and of course is ultra weak without the item)
and btw at the end of the 1st season of D3 Blizzard erased my gear so that was it for me, uninstalled immediately, when recovering my items 90% of my gear had disappeared all my gems and materials (their reply "too bad just play some more and you'll get them back")...so yeah...game over for me...you do not mess with player items in a freaking arpg !!!
like Bethesda after F76, D4 would have to be the ultimate best arpg for me to consider playing

Path of Exile is always online (drm) and have mtx sale messages popping up while playing, but then again it's free to play, though I don't like any form of drm.
Heck they even went so far as to having several "shop" buttons in the game hud and menu, where you simply can't hide from all of that nonsense.
I don't want to write Diablo IV off just because it's always online (drm), but it's sad to hear that Activision Blizzard haven't learned anything from feedback.
What feedback?
Also, I hope Blizz go heavy on cosmetic MTX, similar to what PoE are doing. If they have a gold mine from selling MTX they will be inclined to work on content for the game for years to come. This is why D3 had hardly any content updates over the years, because the game is not making money and you can't have a full team working on something that is not profitable. You can't simply have developers working on something day in day out and not bring any money in, that would be a suicide.
Best thing that can happen is they make sure they bring the $$$ in to work on the game for years after release.
