Diablo IV Confirmed as Online-Only

Diablo IV Confirmed as Online-Only

Blizzard has confirmed that Diablo 4 will not have an offline mode. Speaking during a panel held at BlizzCon 2019, lead designer Angela Del Priore addressed a question about whether the game can be played solo and whether it will support "a full offline mode."

"We are not going to support an offline mode," Del Priore replied. "But as I said before, nothing in DIablo 4 is going to require partying up. You can play solo and dungeons are private. Campain quest areas will [also] remain private."

So although you will need an internet connection for the game to work, you can still play solo if you don’t want to group up with people. Players who are already familiar with the franchise likely won’t be bothered by this, as the exact same structure has been in place in Diablo 3 for seven years. However, newcomers may not be aware of the fact that online play isn’t mutually exclusive from solo play, and may be deterred from playing if that isn’t made explicitly clear.

How is this even news worthy? D3 was online only, and Blizzard hasn't had an offline game since before Starcraft II.

On console D3 is playable completely offline and on another website I read that this news applies also to console versions.

Anyone else thing D4 looks really rushed. Like they took D3 and did a quick mod to it.

It's not like it's coming out anytime soon. People wanted D4 announcement and they got it. I said it a year ago, all Blizzard had to do is announce D4. Hell, if they ran a 5 second video with nothing but the letters "Diablo IV" on the screen, people would be buzzed.

We just wanted to know Blizzard are indeed working on a new proper Diablo game. And we got it this year.

The game is pre alpha as we speak, it'll take years to come out. Fine by me.

BTW, why is the always online thing even surprising? It's the best form of DRM. Look at console versions of D3, full of duped items, utter joke.

Yes, but you don't want that. People dupe like crazy on consoles, completely kills the game.

Don't you guys have internet?

Yes. Do you have a oven at home? Probably, but that's not a good argument to use it as storage case (+1 kudos for the oven: it doesn't make your game lag or crash, nor it doesn't add additional delay to process your input).. Plus I may wanna play it on my laptop/tablet in mobility or where I cannot have a good or stable connection.
