Destiny Makes $500 Million in First 24 Hours
Ok, not bad, not bad at all. Activision announced that Destiny has made $500 million in sales in its first 24 hours of release. This makes it the biggest video game launch ever. Suddenly, Activision's investment of $500 million into the Destiny franchise doesn't sound so bizarre.
"Based on extraordinary audience demand, retail and first party orders worldwide have exceeded $500 million for Destiny," said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. "This industry milestone marks another blockbuster success for our company and demonstrates our unique ability to create some of the most successful entertainment franchises in the world. The success of Destiny, along with the recent introduction of Blizzard Entertainment's Hearthstone, is further validation of our unique capabilities to create great entertainment franchises from the ground up."
"Since the beginning, we've been confident that our investment and belief in Destiny would pay off. But not many people believed we'd be able to say it did so on day one," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. "Destiny is officially the biggest new franchise launch in our industry's history. It's also the highest-selling day one digital console release in history. We have more confidence than ever that Destiny will become one of the iconic franchises of this generation and Activision's next billion dollar brand. Most importantly, it's just a great game which we can't stop playing. A big thanks to our incredibly talented team and partners who helped make this happen; most importantly, our partners at Bungie."

It is marketing bull, read this.
They have shiped 500 million worth of copies to retailers, not to customers, they haven't released the sales figures for customers yet. They did the same thing when they released COD Ghosts.
GTA V is still king, it made 800 million worth of sales to customers in 1 day, and 1 billion in 3 days.

While I agree that D3 vanilla fell short, you have to remember that people were expecting it to be "the best game ever made" which it off course wasn't. It was still a very good ARPG and now it's by far the best ARPG on the market, imo. That being said, I just installed Diablo 2 median XL ultimative mod last night and will put some hours into that.
Destiny reviews are good btw, if you take away the retardation on meta.

A moron wouldn't, a gamer would. I've owned multiple gaming PC's over a long period of time and I've made many updates. I've also owned countless consoles, because I enjoy playing games. Some games aren't available on the PC. Simple as that.
Is that difficult for you to understand?
I second that, plus that there are games that you can play together with friends and family from the same couch.

It really started with Diablo 3. People were bashing it, people who never even played the game. It was "cool" too hate D3. Game sold 15m copies in the end and that says it all.
With Destiny, people suddenly decided to bash it because it lacks in the story department. It's a shooter. Who cares?
You are talking about the followup to a legendary game there. Diablo 3 fell a few miles short of that. Destiny is.. well the reviews and users have already spoken with their rating for this one. Another watch_dawgs PR hypemachne game that falls short.
