1080p on 1440p monitor does not look good anymore then 1440p downsamepled to 1080p monitor, on the other had I have seen 1440p on my 4k TV it look worlds better then 1440p down sampled to 1080p monitor or 1440p monitor trying to show 1080p.
Obviously they qaulity of scaler come into play, When ever i get new monitor to replace this DVI 1080p i have it will most likely be 4k monitor. But I will never buy another 1080p panel of any kind.

Never say never ! For example for a second monitor i use the cheapest possible that is not tn since tn view angles do not favor the usage since it is angled . I got a while back a philips ips 27' 60hz for if i remember right 108 euros , for what use i have for it is perfect (random googling and background noise yt ) but man the panel s@cks big time ! On blue color specifically if you look somewhat closely is "streaked " . No regrets though this monitor is for 2ndary stuff to reduce my alt tabbing and if it breaks i will get the cheapest possible again.

Not an issue with DLSS. It's the sweetspot for acceptable image quality and high fps, just like it is for acceptable font rendering at 27" without scaling. Better DL TAA(U) in the hopefully not too distant future will not only benefit 4k, but also 1440p.
1080p >24" displays are a joke, unless you need really big fonts due to some eye condition.

Id rather turn down resolution from 1440p to 1080p than drop game settings. You cant do that on a 1440p monitor and have it look good. Found myself in this situation too many times.
Now, take a 4k display and drop the resolution to 1080p. Still looks great, while 1440p with 1080p is completely unacceptable. This is because it scales by an integer, meaning 4 pixels on a 4k display is exactly 1 pixel on a 1080p output.
You know you can play on windowed mode too . Anyway if you do not have the hardware to run native 1440p you certainly do not have the hardware to render natively 4k is way out of the question. And if you are going to get a 4k monitor to game on 1080 ... Might as well stick to 1080 to begin with. And yeah i know what integer scaling is. Anyway it seems your problem mostly comes from your preferred way of playing your games , witch it might seem weird to me since in a lot of cases i can not tell medium and high detail if i do not compare screenshots next to each other . That said to each their own i can not blame you either since personal preferences are exactly that personal :p
