DCS World 2.5 Released

The DCS World Website now offers a new version 2.5 of Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS World), the free-to-play digital battlefield from The Fighter Collection and Eagle Dynamics

Our dream is to offer the most authentic and realistic simulation of military aircraft, tanks, ground vehicles and ships possible. This free download includes a vast mission area of the Caucasus region and Black Sea that encompasses much of Georgia. It also includes a flyable Russian Sukhoi Su-25T ground attack aircraft and the famous WWII North American TF-51D fighter. An additional more than two dozen aircraft are available for purchase.

The download comes with one of the most powerful mission planners ever designed, full network play and more than 156 AI weapons systems, 105 ground vehicles and trains, 50 air defense systems, 19 ships and 84 AI aircraft permitting you to plan and play highly sophisticated missions. DCS World is massively extensible through additional DCS modules as well as user-made add-ons and mods which you can purchase and download from our site.

Thanks for the news post HH, looks like a really interesting game / sim, it's been many years since I played such games. Seeing this reminds me how much I've missed them!

Thanks for sharing, that video made me download and try out this game.

EDIT:After an hour of trying to get this to start/play or do anything I gave up and uninstalled the game.Shame it looked like a keeper.

I should not have to say this, but I have 200 games installed they all work but this one stumped me and can not be bothered wasting any more time trying to get it to play.

I can't get it past the opening screen so I'm giving up as well.

I've been flying DCS World for well over 10 years now. Today, I fly with VMFA-251 online 4 times each week. There is nothing, repeat nothing, comparable to DCS unless you are in an actual dome simulator owned by the U.S. Military. Because of the insane complexity of DCS World, you must have a strong gaming rig and plenty of onboard memory. That said, it takes almost a minute to load a mission, even from my 500 GB SSD. Once the map chosen is loaded, subsequent loading takes a second or two. Keep in mind that the maps that DCS loads (3 different ones with a 4th on the way) are unbelievably huge but extremely detailed. Consider the A-10C fires 3,000 rounds per minute (actually around 60 rounds per second) and DCS calculates each one with time of flight, wind effect, and gravity drop, all the A2A missiles fired in the sim, all the bombs dropped, all the radar searches and locks from all simulated radars on the ground and in the air, all operating at the same time., all the radar jamming going on, all the weather, clouds, sun, moon, stars, cars, buses, trucks, tanks, tank rounds fired, SAM missiles, rockets, small arms rounds fired, 3D surface textures of all static, AI controlled, player controlled, or current pilot controlled aircraft, all the interior complexity of the player's cockpit with hundreds of switches, knobs, and controls, plus the player's aircraft's flight dynamics... taking a breath... all in real time, for each and every online flight in multiplayer. And each players screen (or two, or three, or four) is at the fidelity you see in the video. And, on my gaming rig, it's all done in 4K video.

Sure, you can play in game mode with a tinker-toy computer. DCS does allow it. But I don't know anyone who would. DCS is all about realism. In game mode (as opposed to simulator mode) it would be like having an Audi R8 just to drive up and down your driveway to fetch the morning newspaper.

The Caucasus map (you should see it all in the WINTER!) and two aircraft are free.

Oh, and be advised, due to realism, flying a fixed wing or rotor aircraft is NOT like just pressing WASD. You have to know what you are doing. Otherwise, use your two feet to fetch your morning newspaper.

I have played many different flight simulators for many years , too many to mention !! yep, even the Tornado sim which actually came from a military sim , on the old DOS. I have to somewhat agree with Gerardfraser , and his computer is not tinker toy !!! Look , I really like DCS world,, BUT !! it is like im Charlie Brown trying to kick the foot ball while Lucy is holding it. I spent many hrs already with my F18 and when I leave the airport, it is a 25 % to 75 % chance that I will be able to land. yes it is a big program ! very big !! but I am here to fly the plane and land it .!! not to look at pretty pictures. The trouble is too many malfunctions , flaps not engaging the way they are supposed too, but what really makes me mad is throttle control , feathering a throttle is really important for landing and when it gets stuck on full , well then , all my time is wasted and I am hurt. I am trying to do something here , not have to circle the strip a thousand times not to mention stuck landing gear.!! half way engaged!! , sometimes one wheel ..the front one!! . Now im not big shot with million dollar computer but my tinker toy runs the game really well on medium graphics. Ram is what is important and not hard drive. Im running 32 gigs with 30 available . my CPU is AMD APU with integrated Radeon5 ..its only a 2 core A6 7400 K but I soon get my A10 7860 K , . anyway,, DCS World 2.5 ?? I LOVE IT !! I don't know why , but I LOVE IT ,... however, because of the mech action faults, ... like I did not even mention , suddenly, the map becomes backwards , and on my HUD HDNG compass, sometimes becomes inverted, and suddenly heading 09 ( due East ) becomes due West and 27 ( due West ) becomes due East , while at the same time , 3600 , ( 00 ) remains true ...( due North ) while the south side of the airstrip, suddenly becomes the north side , and at the same time. ya know ,, im looking down at the runway, and "" hey wait a minute ....what ??? ..""" LOL but this NAV. situation only happened with the S25 ST Frog. which comes free , by the way. so yes I really like DCS world and I cannot stay away from it but some times I find myself feeling like what Gerard says.
