D-Link offers First 5G NR Enhanced Gateway

D-Link offers First 5G NR Enhanced Gateway

The DWR-2010 5G Enhanced Gateway is one of the first gateway available for 5G broadband networks. It delivers speeds up to 40x faster than the fixed broadband speed. This hybrid Router combine the latest mobile connectivity with advanced Wi-Fi technology, according to D-Link.

The DWR-2010 5G NR Enhanced Gateway is one of the first of its kind  to take full advantage of the bandwidth capacity of its AC / AX Wi-Fi to provide a wireline internet experience via mobile connectivity. The gateway has a built-in 5G NR (New Radio) NSA module and can operate on the sub-6 GHz or mmWave frequencies in 200 MHz (2 x 100 MHz) or 800 MHz (8 x 100 MHz) configurations.

The speeds of 5G allow the DWR-2010 to take advantage of its Wi-Fi capability, fully utilizing the bandwidth capability of its wireless network to stream 4K video content and handle online gaming needs with little to zero lag and buffering. The gateway will also expand the connection options for people across the U.S., providing fast, broadband service in remote areas currently limited to dial-up and DSL services. It will also reduce the amount of knowledge and time needed to set up, only requiring power and a sim card to create a home Wi-Fi network.

  • Embedded 5GNR NSA module (3GPP Rel.15)
  • Sub-6 GHz or mmWave frequency compatible
  • 5 Ethernet Ports
    • 1x 2.5Gbps LAN
    • 1Gbps LAN
    • 1x 1Gbps WAN/LAN
  • AC2600 Dual Band Wi-Fi (800 + 1732 Mbps) with MU-MIMO
  • 4 external antennas for LTE/5G NR
  • Whole home coverage with D-Link Wi-Fi Mesh
  • Auto Firmware Upgrade
  • Supports VoLTE
  • Supports Remote Management (TR-069)

I have no idea what 5G is anymore. Who will be the carrier for the mobile connectivity? Do I have to have a special SIM for it or the device provides it or something?

EDIT:
The gateway will also expand the connection options for people across the U.S., providing fast, broadband service in remote areas currently limited to dial-up and DSL services. Ok, ok. So I guess local consumers can be the mobile network providers? And how local consumers can switch between their 5G station to global ("carrier") station?

Greeeat. The WiFi radiation wasn't enough, we now have the mmWave one to really heat things up. I will never ever buy or use something like this, even if I get it for free.
The latency that you get with fiber is unparalleled and will be for ever and ever. You can't physically get the same latency on air transmission as the cable one, period. So, say what you say Qualcomm, but this is useless for me. For people that don't have broadband to their homes, could be interesting, but if they care about their health, they better use 4G only.

You will get dosed whether you use it or not IF you are in the area where 5G is used. It's like with cellular network now. You can opt to not use the mobile phone, but you are in the waves so you might as well use it. 5G is a little bit better tho, radius is very small so the coverage won't be nearly as wide as the current carrier signals are.

Anyway, they are going to experiment on people in Chicago this year, so we will see how that goes. Poor people.
