Cyberpunk 2077 will not have Ray Tracing on AMD RX 6000 GPUs at launch

Cyberpunk 2077 will not have Ray Tracing on AMD RX 6000 GPUs at launch

It's rather peculiar news this one. CD Projekt Red released yesterday a list of hardware needed to run Cyberpunk 2077 with Ray Tracing on PCs, but the list does not have the new RX 6000 GPUs.

According to Marcin Momot, the developer's community manager, the company is still working on implementing new AMD graphics cards, which feature dedicated ray-tracing hardware. It's interesting, as both NVIDIA and AMD are using the very same DX-R implementation.

Momot said that the feature is still in development for Radeon GPUs and will arrive in Cyberpunk 2077 after launch. CD Projekt Red released yesterday a list of hardware needed to run Cyberpunk 2077 with Ray Tracing on PCs , but the list does not have the new RX 6000 GPUs. According to Marcin Momot, the developer's community manager, the company is still working on implementing new AMD graphics cards, which feature dedicated ray-tracing hardware.

A Twitter user questioned the CD Projekt Red community manager about the absence of AMD graphics cards in the requirements for Ray Tracing. Soon after, Momot said that the feature is still in development for Radeon GPUs and will arrive in Cyberpunk 2077 after launch.

“Not for launch, but we are working with AMD to release this feature as soon as possible,” said CD Projekt Red Community Manager. We contacted the video card manufacturer for more details on the matter and are waiting for a response.

Aside from AMD GPUs, Cyberpunk 2077 won't take full advantage of next-gen consoles when they hit the market, either. CD Projekt Red has ensured that the game will run flawlessly on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S, but will only take full advantage of the devices' power after receiving a future update.

While AMD's new hardware is still being optimized for Cyberpunk 2077, it will feature various NVIDIA technologies at launch. In addition to being compatible with Ray Tracing and DLSS.

When you look at the non-RT requirements, it seems to demand more from AMD hardware than Nvidia. It's going to be a heavily Nvidia optimised on PC, which means they needed to build the graphics engine twice: once for the consoles, once for the PC. Even though in reality AMD RT is missing in the beginning due to their deal with Nvidia, I also wouldn't be surprised if it's simply also challenging to implement because the engine will run inefficiently on AMD GPUs. The AMD RT is a lot weaker than Nvidia's, to boot, which certainly would require additional optimisation to not make it unplayable with AMD RT turned on.

I understand it's very attractive for game studios to make a deal with either Nvidia or AMD, but it also means extra work, so it's not entirely free money.

Same, i dont give a rats arse about raytracing OR dlss... screenspace reflections will look just fine, just as they do in all other games.

I want 60 fps at native 4k with ultra settings.
