Crytek: its getting increasingly hard to wow people with graphics
Crysis and Ryse: Son of Rome developer are amongst the better looking games in the industry thanks to the proprietary CryEngine. In an interview with DSO Gaming the developer says that it's not as easy to impress players with beautiful graphics as it used to be.
"As opposed to the times of the original Crysis, we as an industry have reached a quality level now where it is getting increasingly more difficult to really wow people," Crytek’s principal rendering engineer Nicolas Schulz told DSOGaming in an interview. "That said, there’s still enough areas to explore and we will definitely keep pushing the boundaries as much as possible."
Schulz also discussed the limitations of high-end PC graphics processing units (GPUs) and the current generation of consoles. On PC, he said, the current generation of high-end GPUs is still far from being able to reach 60 frames-per-second at 4K resolution, which is four times the amount of pixels that need to be shaded compared to 1080p.
"This is very quickly saturating the available bandwidth," Schulz said. "The consoles are clearly behind high-spec GPUs in terms of raw horsepower, however on the positive side, they share the same modern architecture which enables a wealth of interesting optimization techniques."
Ryse: Son of Rome comes out for PC on October 10. Crytek recently announced that it has stripped the Xbox One's microtransactions out of the PC version of the game. If you want to know if you can run Ryse: Son of Rome, check out the PC system requirements.

Graphics are wonderful. We all wanted better graphics, realistic play, physics and depth of play but pretty graphics alone are really a let down when the game turns out to be dorky (Far Cry 3 is an excellent example).
Far Cry 3?
no i think you meant ryse.
fc3 graphics are ok.

Crytek used to make great games, look at the first crysis or far cry. Even the last two crysis games were decent enough to be called great games, so it's just incredible how a bunch of great game developers can totally ruin themselves with a couple of bad games in a short time span, like warface or ryse...

the OP isn't about crytek, though Mato of course you can add anything, but it's more about
1 like Undying said Cevat is all about graphics in games
2 a few days before ryse is released he comes out sayin this
3 what does he mean?
he's setting us up, this game is prolly gonna be the best lookin game ever released (in general folks no nitpicking please)
so yeah, imo he wants us to think ryse graphics aren't goNna be al that but in reality THEY GONNA BLOW US AWAY.
THING IS ONCE WITcher3 and the other uber games are out (the late 2015 ones -Tj- calls real next-gen) then we all gonna be real impressed for sure, this is how you know Cevat is bluffing.

What about realistic visual body damage? I remember a game a long time ago that had something like that even if very rudimentary.

Seriously?!! News flash!
I still play games 10-15 yr's old. Because they are still fun to play, that's what it is all about. 70% game play 30% graphics. Not the other way around. If the game is boring the most amazing graphics ever will not help much.
Well said. I find it amazing how oblivious the game industry is to its own legacy. When computer gaming was in its prime there were hundreds of amazing games released using the technology of the times. One would think the developers would revisit the library of titles and see what they could resurrect with modern technology.
There have been a few so far but no where near what's possible. Titles already given a make-over include Carrier Command, Elite and a new title by Chris Roberts of Wing Commander fame called, "Star Citizen". Currently under development are "Midwinter" and "Heavy Gear" (although Heavy Gear looks to be an online multi-player arena game only). I'm sure there are some more being looked at and worked on but I think there should be more effort applied.
There are dozens of games that people today never heard of because they had not been born yet. If they knew what gaming was comprised of in the past they would probably be in awe.
