Crucial unveiled its latest Pro series of memory products, signaling its commitment to offering customers a more premium option. This new series includes DDR5 and DDR4 variants, operating at impressive speeds of DDR5-5600 and DDR4-3200, respectively.

Notably, the DDR4 modules retain the familiar green PCB, while the DDR5 modules feature the sleek black PCB found in Crucial's standard DDR5 lineup. While the Pro series closely resembles Crucial's regular modules, there is one aspect that may sway potential buyers.

Distinguishing itself from the standard DIMMs, the Pro series incorporates support for AMD EXPO and Intel XMP 3.0. However, it's important to note that the AMD EXPO compatibility is exclusive to DDR5 modules, whereas the DDR4 modules are designed to support Intel XMP 2.0. This inclusion simplifies the process for end users to leverage the enhanced performance offered by these modules. However, it's worth considering that Crucial has adhered to JEDEC timings. For instance, the Pro DDR5-5600 UDIMM kit exhibits timings of 46-46-45-45 at 1.1 Volts, whereas competing products often achieve timings in the range of 36-36-36-36, albeit at higher voltages of 1.25 Volts or above. Even within JEDEC timing specifications, Crucial has opted for a middle-ground approach for DDR5-5600, despite the availability of a JEDEC timing option that supports 40-40-40-40—a more suitable choice for a premium product.

In terms of pricing, a 32 GB kit comprising two 16 GB modules of DDR5-5600 modules carries an additional cost of $11 compared to Crucial's standard modules, with a retail price of $115 excluding VAT, as opposed to $105.
