CPU: Intel likely to invoke price reductions in 2020
The recent Core X series already has seen a pretty dramatic price drop in the HEDT segment, a reaction to AMD, as consumers are fleeing towards AMD for that better price perf ratio. It's now reported that Intel will further reduce prices in 2020 to remain competitive with AMD.
The news was posted by Digitimes who learned from this new information from various points of sale in Asia. According to them, a plan in motion would have several phases, whereby Intel's partners who integrate the CPUs into their own systems as well as OEMs will be given priority and will first benefit from the discount.
So in that first phase, the system integrators can apply that discount, that also means for the desktop consumer market there likely will not be big changes (if any) soon. We'll see how it pans out. The recent Core X series nearly halved in price when launched compared to previous-gen products, perhaps the mainstream segment will follow at one point.
