Corsair Drive Cloning Kit and SSD Software Utility

Corsair announced two new solid-state drive (SSD) related products. The first, the SSD & Hard Disk Drive Cloning Kit, enables users to easily duplicate and transfer data between drives. The kit, which includes a cable and software, is ideal for users upgrading from traditional hard disk drives (HDD) to faster, more rugged Corsair SSDs. In addition, the company announced the Corsair SSD Toolbox, a free software utility which enables users to configure, optimize and monitor their Corsair SSDs.

SSD & Hard Disk Drive Cloning Kit

The SSD & Hard Disk Drive Cloning Kit enables users to move data between a hard drive and SSD by simply selecting the source drive and destination drives and then clicking a button. Designed for users migrating their data to newly installed SSDs, the kit includes data migration software, a USB-to-SATA cable, and Quick Start Guide. The cable supports USB 3.0 and 2.0 delivering transfer rates up to 180MB/s with USB 3.0 ports, 4 times faster than USB 2.0.

The SSD & Hard Disk Drive Cloning Kit features:
Support for Corsair SSDs and SATA notebook hard drives
Compatibility with Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and OS X®
Includes data migration software, USB-to-SATA cable, and Quick Start Guide
3 year warranty

Corsair SSD Toolbox
The Corsair SSD Toolbox software helps Corsair SSD owners to install, configure, optimize, and monitor the health of their drives. The Windows compatible software is available as a free download from the Downloads tab of SSD product pages on www.corsair.com.

The Corsair SSD Toolbox features:
Drive Information – Displays model, size, firmware, serial number, other key data, and updates SSD firmware
Over-provisioning – Allows allocation of SSD space to enhance endurance and performance
SMART Status – Displays Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology status of drives
Secure Wipe – Securely erases data from drives
Optimize – Allows scheduling of TRIM command to optimize SSD performance
Clone – Copies entire contents of one drive to another (coming in a future update)

What data can we transfer to an ssd except the os?
I mean, most of us use the ssd for the operating system and not for storing data. What's the point of this kit?

A fresh install on the ssd is nowadays so fast, especially with an usb. Last time i installed my os to my new ssd, it took me less than 10 minutes.

Cloning is used if say you upgrade your SSD and do not want to start all over again. I did it when i went a Corsair Force GT 120gb to a Samsung 840 Pro 256gb. I used the Samsung software, but there was no problems at all and i did not have to reinstall everything.

All SSDs worth getting come with decent cloning software it seems.
My only bugbear with the migration software on the 840 Pro is that it doesnt let you choose the size of the new OS partition.
Even using Acronis Backup, its a major pita when restoring a drive image to a new drive, but I had to use this in the end.
Why dont they just give you the option to change partition sizes instead of defaulting to maximum space available, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to code it?

Perhaps Corsairs software does?

It was about time for Corsair to release a Drive Cloning Kit and SSD Software Utility, they should have done this a long time ago,I am not sure about which ssd's come bundled with this kind of software except Samsung's ssd's although i am not interested in the cloning part of the software, the main feature i like is being able to monitor the total host reads and writes and most af all being able to run to trim the disk on demand.

A fresh install on the ssd is nowadays so fast, especially with an usb. Last time i installed my os to my new ssd, it took me less than 10 minutes.

I totally agree with this for some of us who just have windows installed and a couple of apps on their ssd and don't mind re-installing everything from scratch,The whole fresh install process for me doesn't exceed 30 min including drivers and windows updates and some tweaking. The actual windows install is less than ten minutes from when installing from usb.

The brand new OCz Vector comes with Acronis Trueimage HD.
But would you believe, it isnt compatible with Windows 8 lol.
Not only that, it isnt the full package, but a cut down version that doesnt even let you apply a password to your backups!
I was most annoyed with this, so I installed my old version again.
Then the Vector died after 2 months anyway, so I bought a Samsung 840 Pro which is surprisingly noticeably quicker.

OCz need to get their act together.
