Updated: Core i9 CPU Series will get soldered heatspreader

Updated: Core i9 CPU Series will get soldered heatspreader

Back in July we mentioned that word out on the street was that Intel has been shipping some samples of the Core i9-9900K to overclockers, and as they found out, the 8-core parts do not use thermal paste, however, have the heat spreader directly soldered towards the die, much like Ryzen has.

A bund of new slides are confirming that fact once more. If you think about it, the reason behind this could be twofold.

  1. Intel has been listening to the cries of all of us requesting a soldered SKUs for better thermal performance.
  2. Just that, they need it for thermal performance.

Of course, the answer is the last one, the extra cores based on the very same Coffee Lake architecture that well pretty much is Skylake when you think about it will produce more heat and that is a challenge to deal with. But yeah, in the end, it is good news to be brutally honest.

The clocks have been confirmed once more as well, Core i9-9900K has 8-cores/16-threads and will clock in that 5.0 GHz range in a single-core turbo mode. Neither the Core i7-9700K nor Core i5-9600K will support HyperThreading. You can watch the per core clock frequencies here.

Update:

XFastest on their facebook got their hands on some samples and delidded them, it's confirmed again, they are soldering the heatspreaders.

So until today Intel was saying that soldering can course microscopic cracks so they could not solder even small 4 core K series, but now when they need it they can solder 8 core CPU no problem, Shame u Intel!.
