ClockTuner for Ryzen to be Overhauled and Updated (CTR v2.0)
We've written a lot about this software and are of course the official host for it, and it's been a popular tool ever since the beginning. Yuri emailed us this morning with a bit of a teaser presentation for the soon to be released CTR version 2.0
The good news first, CTR 2.0 will be supporting Zen3 based processors next to a couple of new features and looks. Newly-introduced is a Hybrid OC mode so that the tweaks will be commenced simpler than before. It's a balance in-between manual and automated tweaking. One big change is that the pending update will no longer require Ryzen Master as the CPU interfaces faster than ever with the application, 2ms when the CPU is idle, and 15ms when all-cores are loaded.
This morning, Yuri sends out a few slides of what you can expect, including a roadmap indicating v2.1 in H1 2021. That revision will see the automatic curve optimizer for Zen3 CPUs being utilized, which is rolled out in the new AGESA firmware. A v2.2 version is expected to launch in the third quarter, which would support AMD Ryzen Threadripper 5000 series and mobile Ryzen 5000 processors.
CTR 2.0 is expected to become available for download late January 2021.

is it worth trying ?
imagine the damage that could be done allowing a 3rd party app to access the bios.
No one questions it.

Just curious, does this work with the mobile Ryzen CPU (4000H/4000U series)?

Whilst I am looking forward to playing with this software on my 5900X I have to admit what you described can be done within Windows within just a few clicks as well. Obviously not to the same extent as with this software. But switching to the windows power saver power plan and then altering the max/min cpu state I can lock this to 60% and my 5900X locks to 2.2GHz with a really low voltage of 0.457v - 0.625v this speed is more than enough for general PC usage such as web browsing, office work, streaming movies, downloading files, etc. Then with a few clicks switch to balanced power profile when gaming, video encoding, etc.
I did the same thing on my 2700X (needed around 50% on cpu states for 2.2GHz) and my 3900X (needed around 75% on cpu states for 2.2GHz). For my 5900X anything over 60% and the clock speed switches higher and anything under 60% and nothing changes and it stays at 2.2GHz.
Still looking forward to a new program to play around with though mainly for undervolting.
