To accommodate the next (totally new) CPU generations, AMD will introduce two more sockets. AM5 is expected to be introduced for the mainstream platform, whereas SP5 is expected to be used for the high-end server platform. CoolServer, a Chinese cooler manufacturer, has uncovered the first AM5 and SP5 coolers.
HXL, a dataminer who is active on Twitter noticed there are five different new processor coolers on the market to choose between. As the name implies, one model, the AMD AM5 4U-R21, is designed to be used with AMD's AM5 socket in conjunction with a 4U server rackmount configuration. It features a total of five heat pipes. When operating at 1300 to 3800 rpm, the 92 mm PWM fan can produce an airflow of 61.46 cfm at 40 dBA and a noise level of 40 dBA. Because of this, it is capable of dissipating up to 240 watts of heat. The contact surface measures 90 x 54 mm, which should be about equivalent to the size of an AM5 heat spreader, according to the manufacturer. Rembrandt and Raphael are likely to be the first AMD devices to use the AM5 socket, but we may expect a Zen 3 upgrade with more cache before those generations are announced.
The contact area of the four SP5 coolers is unclear, although the size of the SP5 1U-S11 cooler is restricted to the mounting points and nothing more. The actual surface area of contact with the heat spreader will be only slightly bigger as a result of this. Its dimensions are 118 x 92.4 mm, and its height is barely 25 mm.
In addition to two models that are passively cooled, there are two models that are fan-cooled. One has a height of 65 mm, which means it will most likely take a 60 mm fan to cool it. According to the images, the second model is a somewhat larger version of the AM5 cooler that includes a sixth copper heatpipe. A 90 mm fan will be used in conjunction with this model because of its height of 92.4 mm. It has been determined that the cooling capability of the two SP5 coolers with fans will be 320 watts and 400 watts each. Unfortunately, there is no indication on the Chinese website as to how much they should cost or when they will be available.
