Biostar Racing X570GT8 (Ryzen 3000) Motherboard Photo and Specs

Biostar Racing X570GT8 (Ryzen 3000) Motherboard Photo and Specs

Perhaps Biostar was a bit envious after the MSI tease, so here is their "Racing X570GT8". This is the first actual real photo of X570, the new chipset for ZEN2 / Ryzen 3000.

Looking at the motherboard you can see a powerful VRM, likely to deal with the rumored 16-core proc. The board draws juice from 8+4 pin EPS connectors and the leaked PDF reveals a 12-phase VRM. The usual suspects are there, two metal-reinforced PCI-Express x16 slots and yeah, that would be PCI-Express gen 4.0. Memory support is listed up-to 4000 MHz btw, there are three PCIe x16 slots and one PCIe x1 slot on board. In terms of connections, we see one gigabit Ethernet port and one DVI display connection. Finally, this data confirms that the X570 chipset supports fourth generation PCI express / PCIe 4.0. We will probably find out more during Computex. An active chipset cooler (fan), I have not seen that in a while. Hope it's not a trend.

I actually like the northbridge / southbridge cooler on this as long as it's just rpms in the hundreds and not in the thousands. Hottest thing on my pc is the mobo chipset.

Same here. If the chipset needs cooling - do it. Having lots of case air will just help this fan run at low revs or maybe not at all. My only reservation is getting a replacement if / when this fan dies; but even that won't be a showstopper.

BTW I count three - not one - PCIe x1.0 sockets.

If you have a monster graphic card (2.5 slots 2080, 2070) I am more than sure that it will interfere (cover) with the active cooling on the chipset..also I thought that active cooling for chipset was a thing in the past - is this progress or regress??? X570 runs THAT hot???

Looks like a pretty good board. I expect the fan to be very silent if you don't push the SoC. It is good to have it there if you wish to push it very far for whatever reason. I'm willing to try out Biostar board someday, since their BIOS and quality of components seem to be pretty reliable. I like their website also being rather simple, easy to read. It's interesting to try products from all manufacturers if there is no known striking issues to be had.

Understood, but Biostar added that fan because the chipset, made by AMD, was getting too hot. That's not Biostar's fault. What may be Biostar's fault is not finding a way to passively cool the chipset.

Apparently some insiders have said that the X570 chipset has serious heat issues under certain workloads, so expect a majority of boards with a chipset fan. Supposedly its going to be a real issue on low-end boards, where a fan might be too expensive, so they might just let it overheat and throttle.
