A recent analysis by tech expert ETA PRIME assessed the performance of the ASUS TUF A15 laptop, powered by the AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS APU and Radeon 780M RDNA 3 iGPU. The integrated GPU proved capable of providing smooth gameplay in well-known games at a 1080p resolution.

The Ryzen 9 7940HS APU, an 8-core/16-thread Zen 4 processor, has a base clock of 4.0 GHz and a maximum boost clock of 5.2 GHz. It features the Radeon 780M RDNA 3 iGPU with 12 CUs (768 stream processors) operating at 2800 MHz. During the tests, the system utilized 32 GB of DDR5-5600 memory and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 GPU, but the emphasis was placed on the AMD Radeon 780M's performance.

In the 3DMark Fire Strike and Time Spy assessments, the Radeon 780M GPU excelled, surpassing the Radeon 680M by 12 and 15 percent, respectively, even though the latter system featured faster LPDDR5 memory. ETA PRIME remarked that the preliminary driver was not entirely optimized, resulting in occasional game crashes, implying that performance could be further improved with the release of an official driver.

Various well-known games were tested by ETA PRIME, with the CPU limited to 80 W and the games running at 1080p using medium to high graphics settings. The majority of games achieved playable framerates, with testing carried out in Performance Mode as set by the ASUS Armory Crate software. ETA PRIME also discovered that the integrated GPU could be overclocked to 3 GHz, although it became unstable at 3.25 GHz. The final launch driver may offer enhanced stability and performance.

The following are the benchmark results:

CSGO (1080p High): 130 FPS GTA (1080p Very High): 81 FPS Forza Horizon 5 (1080p High): 86 FPS Fortnite (1080p Medium): 78 FPS Doom Eternal (1080p Medium): 83 FPS Horizon Zero Dawn (1080p Favor Performance): 70FPS Call of Duty Modern Warfare (1080p Recommended/FSR Perf.): 106 FPS Cyberpunk 2077 (1080p Medium/Low Mix): roughly 70 FPS
