Battle royale gamegenre to generate turnover of 20.1 billion dollars by 2019

The Battle Royale will generate a turnover of 20.1 billion dollars (17 billion euros) in 2019, states market researcher Superdata. The genre has become very popular due to titles like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

A battle-royal game is a large group of players being dropped at /in the same location. Then they have to beat each other until one player remains. That player is then the winner. Superdata expects that battle-royal games will generate a lot of revenue, especially on gaming computers. According to the researchers, a turnover of 10.5 billion dollars will be made in 2019. Battle royal games on PC and smartphones have to yield 6.3 billion and 3.3 billion dollars respectively.

In the past year games within this genre were responsible for a turnover of 12.6 billion dollars. In 2017, only 1.7 billion dollars were converted by battle-royal games.

That's a crap load of money for such a simple game concept. Wish I had the idea...

So The Hunger Games concept invented by Suzanne Collins in 2008 is now the favorite game genre by a lot of people, enough to make billions of $ for the companies making those games.

Can somebody please explain why this ridiculous "last man standing" genre is being liked by so many people?
I just don't get it...

Best part is all those "royale" games are trash.

E-peen + egoistic tactics. These kind of games are real time and quick ways to show off and prove you are better than hundreds of people.

It is so incredible. No scenario, no details, no backstory, no quests, nothing but killing each other. I never played these games. Pointless...
