Availability of the Radeon RX 6800 (XT) & 6900 XT Is Still Extremely Poor
We figured it's a nice time to check up on the stock availability of GPUs, in this round we turn back to the recently released Radeon RX 6800 (XT) & 6900 XT.
The product series has seen its launch back in November. Danish hardware retailer Proshop and Caseking from Germany last published informative and disappointing figures on the movement of goods on cards around two weeks ago. However, Proshop recently updated its overview on December 21st. It seems that nothing changed very much in terms of availability:

True. There are so many customers to TSMC foundries that getting some wafer capacity is getting harder and harder... And withou any other viable option, things are going to become worse in the future...
And in the end the winner of this crazy situation is Intel because they have huge capacity to produce their won stuff...
Samsung is a viable option and, if there is enough demand for it, Globalfoundries can step in as well. By then the cost of the EUV machines will be subsidized by the other companies - which is their barrier to entry at the moment.
It's not a great situation but it's not like TSMC is the only company.

people - breathe
this is not anything new. as a matter of fact releases with plenty of stock are the outlier not the average.
let alone the supply chain disruptions caused by anno 2020.
the only folks well and truly screwed are the British with this latest round of disruption.
DDR6 is highly expensive and in short supply, Ethereum's latest version is basically demanding next gen gpu's rewarding them with astronomical hashes, and unspoken is the fact that most AIBs reduced their sales forecasts and revised their quarterly output even down to motherboards.
the hardware industry has been buffeted before and they're going to their bag of tricks.
Even IF AMD and Nvidia had a surplus of gpu's, the AIB's wouldn't build all of them until the market indicators improve. we were "lucky" during the Great Recession as Intel's Q6600 (Core2Quad) had already gone into production and the gpu market wasn't advancing at the same rate as it is now.

i disagree.
Nvidia chose poorly by going with an orphan production node. they COULD'VE had Samsung's 5nm, which is close enough to TSMC for Apple.
there are zero production issues with TSMC's 7nm process. this Fab has been in use for over two years pumping out huge volumes. and AMD has a Sweetheart deal giving them priority.
the QUESTION is the size of the orders, and whether an AMD exec screwed the pooch by under-forecasting demand or what logistics genius can speed up things in the age of Covid.
AMD has a huge juggling game using TSMC as their only high end chip fab. Production of CPUs, GPUs, APUs and console APUs all from one source. Nvidia did slightly better choosing Samsung this time round but even they have to contend with having enough manufacturing capacity for their really high end stuff, commercial grade things.

Is any other vendor other than EVGA allowing you to sign up to be notified of the card you want? They give you 8-hours to buy the card after they email you its available otherwise it goes back into a queue. I signed up for the FTW 3070 recently because I'm looking for a quiet 1440p card and its one of the quietest. I'm also interested in the beefier AMD 6800's like say PowerColors Red Devil but I found no digital way to get in line for one like EVGA offers.
